SAD Lamp

Ask a Question

Hi does anyone know if SAD lamps are actually worth the money. I've had a quick look on the Internet but was hoping for advice or recommendations from people who have used them. Pros and cons. Thanks everyone ☺️

I don't have an answer for you but am also interested as I know several people who might benefit from one - if they work.

I had one and it did me no good whatsoever but my friend has been using one for years and swears by it.So I suppose it's very much a personal thing.Mind you he is a lot moodier than I am so maybe it was more fad than need with me.

MelissaLee1 thank you for your reply. Maybe it's all in the mind rather than science.

I got one last year , did the research and found that the Chinese knock off ones from Amazon and EBay were useless . Apparently you need the right wavelength and intensity of light . At the time only Beurer SAD lamps were recommended (the most expensive) . I found a voucher for "StressNoMore" and paid about £50 . As it is a recognised medical device and they a recognised supplier you tick a box and get the VAT taken off as you would with such as Boots .

Anyway I can't honestly say if it made a difference . I haven't got chronic SAD just feel a bit listless with the dark mornings and evenings (or maybe it's just ageing ) . I haven't remembered to use it this year though I might try it again now you have reminded me .

From what I read during my research don't get a cheapo one as you have to have it just off your direct line of vision for 30mins -1hour so a cheapo one will at best do nothing helpful ,at worst damage your eyes .

Sorry to have been not much help , probably because I didn't have chronic SAD just felt a bit listless in Winter as I suspect is probably fairly normal for most of us . So it didn't do me any harm but I can't report any massive difference it made either .

intherealworld thank you for your response. I think that information is quite helpful.

Sounds like it might be worth trying to see what deals are about for the 'decent' ones and then make a decision.

The sun makes me feel fab, so if the SAD lamp mimics the sun, I’d expect it to have done benefits, even if only psychological

hspexy I agree with that. In the sunshine I feel great. I'll have a look at different options of mood boosting supplements

In my experience of people I treated as a Health Practitioner, a great many benefitted from having and using one.

It helps for Pituitary gland reset needed for new day and night sleep pattern. Better rest, better productivity for you in your day.

Better energy. Take a Vitamin C supplement if you are able to.

Zinc and iron extra top ups always good.

Also it's Worth you looking into more online for the benefits on health using said item. Worth buying a decent one and trying. Fresh sprigs of Lavender under the pillow will help to relax and soothe your mind, to help you sleep well 💤😌

It's like everything else, you get what you pay for, if you buy a cheap one from say Amazon or eBay, it will be cheap china crap, do your research.
