How Safe Will You Feel at the Cinema?

Ask a Question

Now that restrictions are about to ease, how likely are you to return to the cinema?

For example, I’d love to see the new James Bond ‘No Time to Die’ movie but I just can’t picture myself sitting in a cinema with other people. Presumably masked for the duration (understandably) and unable to eat or drink. It just dampens the whole experience.

Are you likely to return to the cinema any time soon?

What do you think of this?

I tend to agree with you, can't see myself going to the cinema to sit through a film if you have to wear a mask as I find them so uncomfortable if you have to wear them for any length of time especially when they start to get damp from breathing into them, I can't wait to remove them when I come out of a shop and breath fresh air.

I had a limitless card as a gift for Christmas 2019 and only used it once before first lockdown. They extended it to June of this year but they have been closed for nearly the whole of that time. I doubt it will be extended again.

Even when they did reopen for a short time they were showing films that had already been shown and old movies.

I used to enjoy going to the cinema, I love watching films, but I can't see myself going back anytime soon. As you've mentioned, the experience won't be as enjoyable now. Plus I don't really want to go anywhere where there will be a lot of people. I always try to keep my distance from others but unfortunately many people ignore the social distancing guidelines. I'm happy watching films at home, and will continue doing that.

I’d love to see Peter rabbit 2 🙈, but I’m not keen to sit with a mask on the whole time

One of the reasons why I rarely visited the cinemas previously was that it’s too expensive, so I doubt I’ll be visiting under current circumstances (they were always a bit grubby in the past anyway)

I actually think cinemas have put the safety measures in place really well. A screen that used to seat around 200 people will now seat only 40 as they ensure seats are blocked off in between. I would still try to go when it's quieter though.

The last 2 times I went (late 2019 and Feb 2020) the cinema was 3 quarters empty anyway, so I'll feel fairly safe I think.

i wouldn’t.. air conditioning recycling germs, close quarters, touching the same seats (can’t imagine they can thoroughly antibac fabric seats)

SarahBenne67061 yes, even if the seats are ‘pleather’, they’ll use the same cloth to wipe the next one and so on.

I wonder if the ticket price will increase to reflect the extra time, manpower and cleaning supplies they will require?

I went to the cinema between lockdowns when there was something on I wanted to see. Most of those screenings didn't have a lot of people in the auditorium. For busier films social distancing was in place and masks were being worn. I'm looking forward to visiting cinemas again.

A couple of people have mentioned that they would be put off going due to having to wear masks. I went to the cinema twice last year around August and wore a mask and didnt find it was an issue at all. In fact, I’m happier to go given the strict measures that cinemas have introduced to ensure safety.

Given that they are expensive, you have to listen to everyone else crunching their way through crispy packets of 'whatever' and I don't enjoy sitting next to people I don't know.... I think when you add covid into the mix it has to be a resounding no for me. Image

I only ever go to the cinema when there is a film I really want to see. I haven't been since well before my son was born. I find the cinema to be really expensive, I normally paid with my nectar points so it was cheaper. But I would now need to get a baby sitter, so that with make it even more expensive. I just wait till the films come out and then rent them at home. Much more convenient for us.

I have 10 Lloyd’s cinema tickets to use up at Cineworld and I’m worried about going to watch a movie when they open back up to the public. Image

Sugarbabe we have the Lloyds tickets too. That’s the only way we go to the cinema. Didn’t use them last year and probably won’t this year.

200,000 free cinema tickets will be given out to National Lottery players in June. This offer will likely be enough to entice a lot of otherwise wary cinemagoers through the door.

I never went to the cinema before lockdown so definitely will not be going after. Can not understand why you want to sit with noisy people when you can sit in the comfort of your own home.
