Samsung Tablet Note 10.1 Can Only Update to Android 4.2

So I have a pretty old Samsung tablet which works fine but I cannot update it to the newest Android version.

I have spoken to Samsung and they basically said it's too old.

My tablet is basically in mint condition. No scratches or anything.

But it's now pretty redundant except for games because it cannot be updated.

This is how all these electronics end up in landfill and everyone has to upgrade every few years.

How can we stop this happening? How can we get big companies to think about their products and make longer lasting components and software?

Is it unreasonable to use a product for more than 10 years?
