Saving Money on a Wedding

Help

Hi guys, sorry if this isn’t the place to post but I was wondering if anybody has tips/ideas on saving money when it comes to weddings? We’ve set a date out of ’wedding season‘ but still everything is soooo expensive! All ideas welcome :-) x

I planned our wedding and my mother in laws and did both on a budget. All the bridesmaids jewellery, my jewellery and the cufflinks were bought in the sales. Wedding dresses were bought in sample sales. Bridesmaid dresses from Oasis/department store, again in the sales. My friend is a hairdresser so did our hair for cheap, mother in laws was free as it was the hairdressers wedding present to her (I would say that hair and make up is somewhere to spend money). Mother in law made her own cake. All the wedding shoes were bought in the sale. We both got married during the week so got £500 off the photographer and my husbands uncle is a photographer so we got two sets for the price of one (again somewhere not to scrimp in my opinion). You could go to your local colleges and see if any photography students would photograph the wedding and use the photos for their portfolio, but beware, they might not be as professional looking. We also got discounts on the venue and food because we got married during the week. We both had minimal flowers and they doubled up as the centrepieces. Mother in law bought her invites cheap on fb, used a local taxi company for wedding cars as they had mercedes. My best mate did my nails for me as she is a nail technician, so if you have any friends or family who are hairdressers/make up artists/ bakers/florists see if they will do them for you cheaper than normal. Figure out what you really want to have and what you can do without and go from there. The less guests you hae during the day, the cheaper it will be as you aren't paying for lots of food, but if you are having lots of guests, then a buffet is going to be cheaper and if you are having a reception in a church hall, you can make a lot of the food yourself. It all depends on what type of wedding you want. Another thing we did was ask on local fb pages for recommendations.

Best tip is when you go to book things, don't say the word "wedding". For instance, we asked the cake maker for a quote for a 3tier red velvet cake, it was only £159. We also used big day productions for our photos. They have lots of professional photographers on their books but its so much cheaper than going direct to any of them. We got the invites from card factory for about £3 😂

Register office, 2 witnesses and lunch with parents and siblings after. Spend any money saved on a nice honeymoon or house deposit!

I bought my dress in pieces, corset and white skirt and shoes. It cost less and looks like an expensive set.

We went for the better room, not for the register Office, the difference was £20. Only had the two witnesses and we went with them to Nandos and ate the (defrosted) cheesecake what I bought online, they sell all sizes and they not so expensive, but the cakes are amazing.

And soon it will be 10 years... 😍

Sounds great - you don't need to go the formal route for an unforgettable day 👍
