There are THREE going - Paypal, Netflix and Amazon, all telling you your account has been blocked. I put them into phishing and report.

I rarely get those texts/emails as I don't enter comps so thought it strange though obviously a scam .

Was worried that some members on here (who use Paypal all the time ) might panic and follow the link . I firmly believe we should all look after fellow members as best we can .

It's often worthwhile typing the number into browser and finding many others are confirming it's a scam. Sometimes also leaving a comment to warn others. This is for that number https://who-called.co.uk/Number/07898492454 Your reputation is restored Ann1984 😀

Always do that - never click on a link on a text or email .

I had the same text earlier this month and ignored it. There have been a couple more scamming texts coming through since and I never had any before. There are more scammers going around since Covid

Always good to keep reminding folk of the danger of these scams and the necessity NOT to click on any links in texts and emails - sadly hundreds still do .

I never click on the links in those emails. I go onto my actual account to check. You can normally tell from the email it is sent from or the grammar used, but if you are in a hurry then you might just click the link and that is how they get people.

I am forever getting PayPal emails telling me I need to do this that or the other. It makes me laugh because I have never had a PayPal account.

There is another type of PayPal scam that people should know about. Unfortunately, there is a money request feature in PayPal that can be exploited by scammers.

This afternoon I received an email from PayPal with the following message (I've censored the phone numbers) -

Oralia Zalla sent you a money request

599 USD will be charged today by our automated payment system. call us at +1(888)524-XXXX / +1(808) 470-XXXX to cancel and claim a refund

This is a scam to pressurize people into handing over money. It's made worse, as the message really is coming from a legitimate PayPal email address. But, ignore and delete this type of money request.

ACR Any scam is good to be aware of , sadly too common these days 😒. We are all unguarded at times - too easy to fall for a scam .

I just don't get how regular compers keep themselves safe from scams ? After all comps are just a way to harvest email addresses etc ( for legitimate marketing ) or for scamming ? How do compers know the difference ?

Most phone providers are part of a scheme that allows customers to report suspicious text messages for free by forwarding it to 7726. If you forward a text to 7726, your provider can investigate the origin of the text and arrange to block or ban the sender, if it's found to be malicious.

Why 7726? Because it is the buttons you would have pressed to spell out SPAM before we had keyboards on our phones.

If you report them, it can help other people not get sent the same messages and reduces the amount of people that may get scammed.

got an amazon scam call on the landline last week. It was regarding amazon prime; no one in the house has amazon prime. That made it obvious it was scam for starters.
