Hey rochey2 🙂

I'm afraid I don't definitively know but it's not a website I'd personally order from:

  • The domain was only registered on 18th March 2020 so it's very new
  • Their listed address is in Glasgow and matches this company: https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/SC395760/officers but I cannot see any mention of that company, or indeed any other company, listed on the website
  • The prices seem rather too good!

So it's overall something I think I'd avoid! As such I have removed the link as a precaution from your first post. Hope that's okay 👍

I have been looking for a treadmill and come across a site listed as a first post called e-topselection. As mentioned by Kelsey the prices are to good to be true. As I looked into it further it does not have a contact number of any sort of landline/phone. Just a e-mail for contact. Also the web address does not start with http. So automatically that starts alarm bells ringing. I watched a program on how to avoid getting scammed and one of the things that I recall was never order from a site that does not have http at the start of the company and one that you have never heard of. Take care

I also think its a scam site as i tried to pay for an item and it said only option is bank transfer!!!! so i would stay well away. I saw a 8ft trampoline that i wanted. also it did look a bit dodgy to me as its not a brilliant website and no contact phone number, no other payment options etc... i was unsure however the bank transfer payment option only confirmed my suspicions.

Hi, I have just ordered a nintendo switch from them but havent paid, as yet, as they have asked for payment by bank transfer. This made me think something was strange, the price was too good too. I am worried I have given them my details so name address, phone number and email.

I think it is too good to be true?.

Would you also think so please?

Thank you.

Hi AllyRobinson 🙂

I'd, personally, strongly recommend that you do not send them any money by bank transfer. Or, in fact, any money via any method.

Very few places (if any) have Nintendo Switch stock at the moment. Etopselection not only have stock but have it at a suspiciously low price.

I of course cannot say definitively if it's a scam or not but everything currently seems to point towards it being too good to be true.

As a heads up, it's my understanding that bank transfer is one of the few payment methods that is really difficult (perhaps nearly impossible?) to reverse. Whilst credit cards and paypal you can dispute a fraudulent payment there's often not much that can be done with bank transfers. This further suggests they're up to no good!

Heya.

I too also ordered a Nintendo Switch from them.

I did some research and saw that the bank account they want the money sending to was a Monese Bank account. So I made a Monese bank account specifically to pay for the Switch.

I paid £209 three days ago via Monese and my order still says "Awaiting bank wire payment".

I've emailed them and still not recieved any reply.

I contacted Monese Customer Support today to ask them to refund the money and they simply said they cannot.

So I have had £209 stolen from me.

DO NOT PAY THEM

I paid by bank transfer. Luckily my suspicions led me to investigate and I found out it was a scam. Phoned up my bank immediately and they managed to cancel the payment before it had cleared and its now been returned to me. (About 90 minutes after first sending). So there is hope for others who happen to fall for the scam

I ordered an Oculus Quest VR from e-topselection and stupidly did a wire transfer and that was it, never heard from anyone since but had I seen these reviews prior to buying I would not be scammed of £335.16 Contact us they say but I've written to them several times and they have not responded, I therefore, have reasons to believe, I was caught, money down the drain, cause I was told that banks don't help or can't help customers get money refunded , when the payment is done through wire transfer.

It depends who you bank with. A number of banks and building society have an obligation to refund money lost due to scams - where there is sufficient evidence to prove you had sent the money expecting to receive a product and that the scam was believeable. Read up on it and see if your bank has this

Contact your bank immediately as theres a chance depending on who you are with that you’ll be able to get your money back. Majority of main banks in the UK as part of the authorised push payment scam code will refund your money after investigation and claiming it back, it can take up to 45 days but least majority will receive their money back.

however since its a wire transfer your unlikely going to get you money back 😞

Authorised push payment is a bank wired payment when you are expecting to receive goods because the scammer has lead you to believe that. research the authorised push payment scam code which many main bank voluntarily opted into as of may 2019

jasminemiles200 yes, it is a policy they may have voluntarily opted into to help scam victims. You need to contact them immediately as it may take up to 45 days, however with this kind of case it likely to be a lot quicker than that. Below is the list of banks which opted in to the code as of may 2019

It’s an authorised push payment. it doesn’t matter if it has been bank transferred or taken in another way. anyone with these bank are likely to get their money back as part of the code

My bank is Lloyds and they said they will contact monese bank about this issue and get back to me in under 15 days, but if his account doesnt have any funds I have lost the money as it was a bank transfer and I authorized it (while doing it)... so I lost hope...

You should definitely argue this. Lloyd’s have an obligation to refund the money as part of the authorised push payment scam code. Present proof you transferred the money in order to receive goods. Everyone should have the order confirmation emails which were sent with the bank details on

czk123 Should I call the bank again and tell them about the APP FRAUD CODE? I have called the citizen advisor but they have referred me to another societies.

LoreeMorales yes I would mention it and they will be able to confirm it. It’s legal so the person you speak to in the fraud team will be hesitant to respond as if they respond incorrectly they can get in trouble, however it is part of a code they must follow to protect their customers. They can’t reassure customers as it’ll still be early days in the investigation for everyone’s banks however it’s highly likely you will get your full money back because of the extent that the scammer has gone to create a site/newsletter/customer service email.
