Be careful with your things, you will be surprised at what people will try to say and do . I have got 2 very large BNWT suitcases, I have been trying to sell them on my neighbourhood sites.Got a message saying someone wanted to buy them, when I looked on their profile it said Tavistock. I live in South Wales. When asked she said don’t worry my daughter lives by you. Alarm bells were ringing, she then asked to pay by pay pal. Which I said I don’t have it, I said I’ll hold on to them until tomorrow and her daughter could get out cash for me ? Then she said she was having trouble with her bank !!!

I asked her where her daughter lives? Nothing off her since. These people really cheese me off

A friend of mine sold some Pokemon cards on marketplace and when the guy turned up for them he asked if he could pay with Paypal, after my friend accepted the payment a couple of days later the buyer requested a refund claiming the cards were fake (which they quite clearly weren't) and a Paypal put a stop to his money, I gave him some advice and Paypal accepted that they information given by the scammer was false and closed the case, the scammer then went and tried to claim his money back directly from the bank, as far as I know he didn't have to pay it back, but it just shows you the lengths that some will go to, to get your money and goods from you.

CarolNettle i think the Ai moderator is not quite fit for purpose as of yet tbh. I replied to your topic and it was removed due to offensive or threatening language yet there was none and all i did was highlight other scams that take place, to warn others, so that they don’t fall victim.

Not sure all this Ai is really working as intended at the moment, i have had deals and comments removed for incorrect reasons, regularly.

CarolNettle I also had my comments removed for being rude or offensive, but they were definitely not.

Thankfully you were on the ball and noticed it straight away. It's so easy to fall for them nowadays. It's awful that we have to be so mindful online. Sites don't stop it quick enough or can't. I completely stopped using PayPal quite a few years ago when scammers started targeting it. I just don't trust that the money will make it to me.

Swimmer94 sadly I feel the same way, and I still have the suitcases and she isn’t having a laugh at me .👍

A gentle reminder now and again, won’t hurt anyone I think except ai maybe, was told my post was off topic, and maybe disruptive!!!

CarolNettle i appealed the decision and it said they were sticking with their decision as my comment was abusive and threatening, when it wasn’t. This Ai moderator business seems to be a bit rubbish tbh, what is the point in having an appeals process if the Ai moderator deals with the appeal as well.

Kelsey I think the Ai moderator needs more work.

jms19 I've had a few removed for the same reason lol even though I didn't say anything remotely threatening, my wife tried to sell something on Facebook, well she had every trick in book thrown at her, from multiple people, you have to be on high alert where money is involved these day's

Though I’m no fan of social media, people are quick to share the kind of scams they’ve experienced & I’m grateful for them, as just when you think you’re savvy enough not to ever get tricked, they’ll be a scammer waiting to hit you with a scam that may be sophisticated enough to dupe you (although thankfully I’m very suspicious of any contact made online in general & I don’t sell or buy many things online). One tip is to just google what you’ve experienced to see if anyone has reported that same experience - you can then learn vicariously. On another note, the AI comments moderator definitely is not the brightest - still at infancy stages, so makes commenting tedious in some cases (can’t be bothered to edit anymore)

I sell items on Vinted and recently been scammed. I sold a pack of 5 items as new without tags and when the buyer received them she said they were not new as the tags had been cut out! Unfortunately I had taken a picture of the products in the packaging and not the individual items so no proof on my part, I just had to write it off as a loss, I apologised and then blocked her. I now take a lot of pictures of the items before posting on the site. For only a couple of pounds it wasn't worth raising it as a dispute. She also called me a scammer when the scammer was actually her.
