Schools Should Worry about Kids Using Bad Language Rather than Saying 'Guys'

Anyone see gmb with the Birmingham headteacher not allowing phrases such as boys and girls, or guys in school?
More and more we seem to be heading for a dystopian world where thoughts and speech are censored. I am sick of this gender neutral rubbish and don't understand why girls should mean tearful and unambitious while boys means strong and clever etc.
Surely that headteacher would be doing a better service teaching children not to use foul language, that is what I find offensive!
It is for parents, not her, to decide what words their kids should or shouldn't use genderwise. I thought 'guys' had become a gender neutral word anyway. I use it often to my family of mixed gender when calling them to the dinner table!
She even had a couple of very young pupils holding up placards saying 'I am not a guy'

Absolutely. Schools should stick to teaching school subjects. Personally I would take my child out of that school. Not sure if it would be ok to call out guys if the crowd around a kid were all male, or do they have to check first and make sure there is not a girl in the crowd. The whole thing beggars belief.
Its just got out of hand now, its ridiculous! Look when midwives were told not to say 'breastfeeding' but instead say 'chestfeeding'. Its going to make children (especially younger ones) confused as to what they are allowed to say. Madness!!
I agree, as I said no one seems to care of children say awful words beginning with F and C but they can be reprimanded for using a wrong word that doesn't fit in with their own minority beliefs.
I admit that I don't like the word 'guys' but not for the reasons this loony toon is bleating about. It seems this guy has nothing better to complain about ........ or perhaps his school is poorly run so he he needs to take the heat off by creating a distracting problem.
I must admit it has become a habit word for me, but for all that just a non offensive word. I should have made it clear in my OP that it was a female headteacher.
I got irritated when Sam Smith asked to be addressed in a gender neutral way. Why should the onus be on others to remember and use what they decide. Only his celebrity status means he can put it out there. If it presents as a man I will say he, if it presents as a woman I would say she, it isn't up to me to guess what someone prefers on a particular day, though I respect their right to call themselves whatever they want.
I agree with you entirely. I cringe whenever I hear primary school aged kids using swear words, and often it isn't done innocently either; and I equally cringe at adults who use swear words in front of their kids.
Crazy isn't it, can't say guys but kids can tell people to **** off with seeming impunity.

Language develops all the time and I really don't understand why a word that has become gender neutral should cause her offence. It's almost like she is contradicting her own stance on this. She says boys and girls is offensive to those who identify as neither. Well what else can you identify as.....a tree?! Even if you are a boy in a girl's body or vice versa the phrase boys and girls would still apply to you. In fact it would be inclusive rather than us all being lumped together as one neutral pack of humans.

Are the youngsters that thick these days that they don't know whether they want sex or not? It's going to end up with people needing written permission before they do anything.
I know exactly how you feel. The older I get, the more I cannot understand the weird brain workings of so many. Like I said its almost like we are heading for some dystopian world where there will be no such thing as free thought let alone speech. What right has any human being to dictate what language we should use. I take davewalsh126 point perfectly as although I hate swearing myself, I would not dare to impose my will on others. She is acting like a dictator and what about kids at home (maybe 2 plus of different genders) whose parents say, "come on guys, get your coats on". The poor kids will be so confused.
I do think if someone has issues with their own gender and wants to change in their addressing of pronouns so be it. But not to be mad when those who don’t know address them as they would to what they think they see.
Teaching children not to use foul language when they come from a home or environment where foul language is used openly is a difficult task but I do take your point entirely about deciding which language should be censored and on what basis.
It's too much isn't it ? Next they will say you cannot welcome an audience by saying "Ladies and Gentlemen"

I think I would do it just to be bl**dy minded! But then you'd probably be sacked or disciplined. I think it is monstrous that older people have to set aside things they have grown up with. Obviously I do not include the issues that we are far more tolerant of, that goes without saying, but who has the right to tell anyone they cannot use their pronoun on a profile.
I do agree that schools need to concentrate on doing their job rather than all of this stuff. Then if they use the 'wrong' words they will at least be spelt properly.
Nice take on the debate lol. But there was another debate on gmb recently saying it no longer matters if spelling and grammar is wrong as long as you can understand what is meant!
The language from the kids these days is terrible all you here is f%$# and c#%$. Bad start to their life good luck in the real world chavs!
Yes, and the annoying thing is, you are not allowed to discipline children anymore. They have the upper hand. But of course there are the children like those I work with who have been taken into care due to various forms of abuse. On the whole they are, despite their background, lovely polite kids, a lot of which is down to the carers.

It stands to reason that rude, demeaning words are not necessary and can be hurtful, which doesn't apply here.
Growing up women were regularly called by such names and the one I hated when living in Australia was 'Sheila'.
My abusive ex would often call me demeaning names including wh*** even though he was the only boyfriend/husband I had ever had.

There's nothing wrong or offensive about the word "chick," but people these days find excuses to get offended.

I am female, but I don't at all mind being called a 'chick' as long as it used in an appropiate context. I am not one to be easily offended, but those who don't like the term 'chick' should be respected.
You can teach kids in school about not using swearing but parents could think its ok to swear so not bothered about the child swearing . I suppose the same happens with trying to educate children about gender neutral and stereotyping how genders should act and the parents refuse to believe or put it down as rubbish.
Its ok to teach children about a magical man in the sky (with zero evidence) yet try to teach kids about gender equality and stereotyping and people go crazy, strange!
I apologise if this post gets shut down because I mentioned religion but as you said "heading for a dystopian world where thoughts and speech are censored" its already happening. You cant discuss religion because it might offend someone but you call people woke and snowflakes, strange!
