Schools
In the News
Hi guys do you think schools should be closed in England to stop more people catch the Corona virus.
greatdeals121 We have virtually exhausted this one over the last few weeks so I would be interested in your opinions please.
I think they should close schools or at least tell kids to stay at home if they are having flu and cold.
KijManhas I would definitely agree with children being kept off school at the first sign of illness but again I have known so many parents send their children to school when they are poorly as the parent won't be paid if they stay at home to look after their child. It's a sad state of affairs.
As an overprotective nan my first instinct is to cry out yes. Logically and considering the impact on businesses and the country as a whole by parents not being able to work as children are not in school, plus many other reasons, I don't think it's a realistic prospect.
No! Should we close call centres? Shopping centres? Public transport? Etc as well then? We need to keep some perspective here , No need for mass panic. We've still got more chance of catching normal flu or many other viruses other than Corona. How will kids not in school stop the spread? I cant see that it would.
Obviously if a child or anyone they've been near displays symptoms than yes self isolate but otherwise should just carry on as normal.
I don't think 80% of the population catch flu each year and that is what is being forecast. A professor has said he has estimated 340,000 deaths in uk.
Lynibis I feel it's just media scare mongering. Theres currently just over 41.000 people in the world with it & the vast majority are mild cases. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
The problem is that people who show no symptoms can spread the virus to other people who can then spread the virus. So if children (who are not likely to be in real danger) take the virus home to their parents and those parents then pass it on to their workmates before you know it things are totally out of control. If the virus gets out of control (and some think that is near) there'll be no alternative but to close schools.
davidstockport well said. As I said I worry about my grandaughter as an overprotective nan, realistically I realise even if she were unfortunate enough to get it she should be able to fight it off. On the other hand it really worries me for my 81 year old mother who is very frail with a pretty much non-existant immune system.
There is no pint just to close schools. everyone should be at home for a week or two, which is impossible.
No, if your child is sick then yes of course they should be kept home but it is just like the flu, you can't close schools over it. People are completely blowing this out of proportion and it's mostly because of the media, but so many people are panicking about this in unnecessary ways - no need to close schools or stock up and empty shopping shelves
this could be going on for a while, so unless people are willing to commit to schooling at home then i dont think its really doable ? you could be seen as neglecting their education otherwise
No not at the moment anyway, agree with "Glitterandgold" there is a lot of scare mongering going on at the moment , think we should just carry on as normal and see what happens.
I dont think closing schools will do much to be honest as the children will more than likely still go out with their friends, shopping with parents etc. Also not many children have caught it and those that have dont seem to be as bad according to news stories.
