Scratch'n'sniff Patch to Help Vegans & Vegetarians Beat Their Craving for Bacon
In the News
For lifelong meateaters looking to kick the habit turning down a slice of sizzling bacon can be as hard as giving up a cigarette is for smokers.
Which might explain the thinking behind the latest attempt to help people eat less meat.
Oxford professor Charles Spence has helped develop a patch infused with the smell of bacon, similar to the nicotine substitutes worn on the arm by smokers to help them give up cigarettes.

Is this going to work?
If I wanted bacon and could then smell it, it would only make me want it more...
Doubt this will go down well with long term vegans. May help new vegans with the urge of missing Bacon
Chelsea0121 my Bro in law was veggie! He said my sister could cook anything !! But when she was cooking bacon , it drove him out !
I figure you're either in or out. I went veggie for a few months and then fresh fry bacon wafted under my left nostril ..it's difficult at best
I can't believe that this chat post has resurfaced after all this time without a single comment back then!
Personally I couldn't live without either meat or bacon.
What else will they come up with if your missing meat so much then maybe they shouldn't be a vegan
that's hilarious. I've been a vegetarian for 14 years and I'm afraid I've never found anything to replace bacon. You just learn to live without it.... eventually
Absolutely tumblespots it took along time to get over it . I think for those wanting to be more conscious of the environment but can't quite live without it, just don't have it as often, maybe? There are lots of environmental issues with farming that need addressing, including things like rice. It'll be interesting to see how bad the climate gets before people start paying more attention
If they're vegan/vegetarian/whatever, they shouldn't care about meat, but since they do it says they want the meat or taste without feeling guilty.
Why is it that vegetarian food is usually in the shape of either a sausage, or a burger etc?
I've seen vegan chorizos and it disgusted me, plus it cost more than the real thing.
If they want vegan/vegetarian food to sell, then they need to stop pretending they're something they're not.
It can look like a burger or a sausage, but after verifying it's not meat I put it back.
When I was vegetarian, the smell of meat would repulse me - I doubt it would necessarily satisfy urges
I am a meat eater, but I personaly don't understand what's so great about bacon and have always found it to be overhyped.
Give me a nice bit of lamb and mint sauce any day. As for a sarnie, give me a nice chicken salad.
Oh my days...how odd. Surely if you hate the idea of eating meat and animal products, the smell of bacon would turn your stomach
Ive always found as a vegetarian bacon to be one of the worst stronger smells, i hate the smell of it, didnt know ye got meat cravings so bad tho, been a veggie 10 years never looked back
I tried Morrison's fake burgers and they tasted awful. Dry, tasteless, and sorta felt like eating paper.
No wonder they were on discount. Most avoid it like the plague.
