Second Hand Christmas Gifts
Ask a Question
What are everybody's opinions on second hand christmas gifts, my son has just turned one and to save money, me and my partner have decided to get great condition second hand items for him as well as lots of new things to unwrap too. (for example last year, we got him a jumperoo, but found on Facebook for around £20 so a lot cheaper than buying new and was great condition)
Nothing wrong with it imo, especially with money being so tight at the moment.
And I don't think your son will care too much with him only being one.
I have done it over years nothing wrong with that. You son is one and would get bored or grow out of toys. Check local charity shops ebay etc
I buy little stocking fillers that are second hand. Sometimes new isn't an option because they don't sell them anymore
90% of my sons stuff is 2nd hand! I get all his stuff 2nd hand from fb. Especially his clothes, he grows out them so quickly. Our son has just turned 2, so still doesn't quite understand Christmas. The new toys that he does have have been bought by friends or family or won in competitions. We've saved so much money buying his stuff 2nd hand and he doesn't know the difference! I am all for 2nd hand items!
Makes perfect sense , not that he'll even know the difference and a good way of recycling stuff and delaying its inevitable eventual journey to landfill .
Nothing wrong with second hand. Mine had lego, go-kart, dolls pram, bikes, play tent, cooker etc and when finished with I sold them on. They were brought up to understand Santa could not always provide what they asked for and they would not all be new, he only had limited resources and his elves could only make so much so he bought things people only longer wanted. Every October they sorted toys and shouted for the Elves to come and get them Worked every year.
MrsCraig Go for it. It was as fun way to learn 'life lessons'. I did think it backfired when my son was 5 and wanted a go-kart that I wouldn't pay the £90 for (he got 2nd hand lego). He came back from school saying he knew why he didn't get one, (I thought someone had spilled the beans ) it was because his friend got the last one as his name was before ours. He got the exact same go-kart the next Christmas because I found one in local 'junk' shop for £20.
You can get some fantastic bargains second hand. Well looked after toys, books and clothes. It’s great for your purse and the environment!
It depends who it's for. I often get hobby-related second-hand books as gifts for my wife (I know what she likes!) and for my sister.
There's some fantastic bargains to be had at Awesome Books, free delivery too.
i dont see an issue, we brought second hand sack fillers last year to bulk sacks with decent stuff instead of tot.
At that age he doesn't know and too be honest I used to buy send hand toys as they are already made up, so he can just open the box and start playing straight away
I've never done it before but when I've seen the barbie house for my girls being way over 130 for PLASTIC! I found one in excellent condition for £25. I've also done the same with a sylvanian family house. Both will last for years to come and I've saved money instead of getting things on my very account and paying way over the odds. Plus it saves time on Xmas morning putting these things together and loads of cardboard taking up bin space.
I think second hand is a great way to save money. I went into a second hand shop last Christmas and found a £100 brand new Versace perfume for £2
Great idea. I think too much is spent buying Christmas presents often because it’s to compete with others, having a teenager is different though.
Absolutely nothing wrong with buying second hand gifts as Christmas gifts. Especially since your son will only be 1
