Following with interest. A lot seem to rely on WiFi connections now and that is something that worries me a bit, I don't know why.....

rararachel It should worry you. That's a good thing but all you have to make sure of is securing it to stop outsiders hacking in and viewing whatever your camera is seeing.

Might a dummy CCTV camera do the trick? They're about £6 on Amazon.

The cameras on eBay / Amazon are generally pretty good these days. Where do you need it, why etc? I have a few so happy to help.

You have two options really. There are cameras designed to be inside that could point out through the window. The trouble with those is like all these cameras, they have infrared LED lights that allow the camera to have night vision. If pointed through a window, those lights reflect in the window and affect the camera.

I would therfore suggest cameras designed to go outside.

I have one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07V4CLWVT

It connects to my WiFi but you have to make sure it's not too far from the router. The maximum WiFi range is probably in the description. You do need to attach it to something like a wall or other flat surface though so it depends how confident you are with DIY! It needs to be powered of course too so the cable has to be able to reach of a power socket in your house.

There is a third option - door bell cameras. Ring are the known brand but there are cheaper alternatives like the one listed as a deal on here.

One thing all these cameras have in common is they connect to an app on your phone that can usually be set to alert you when someone is there and also record. Some have microphones and some don't so it's worth checking that if you need sound.

There's a lot to consider basically so if you're not confident in setting up yourself, it's worth speaking to a local CCTV or IT company who can supply cameras and set them up for you.

One other option is 'secret' cameras. If it's a confrontation issue where you are there at the time, there are all sorts of cameras you can buy that look like something else eg. a pen in your pocket.

Dennab Wow... thank you so much. I dont know how i am going to stay thanks. I need to feel safe in the house until this gets sorted out. The one you sent me now is great and great price. AndreaAndzic That looks like a lot for the money but will take some time to setup. Also, careful with those reviews as a couple of them suspicious eg. possibly fake. I'd consider that system for the price though with the recording etc.

AndreaAndzic Bear in mind those cameras all have to be connected up to the recorder box with cable (60ft of it is supplied). It's a lot of work to run all that cable to the cameras.

AndreaAndzic The one I linked to is an outdoor WiFi camera so that's what you need to search for in case there are any cheaper models.

AndreaAndzic That first one needs a separate box like the one that comes with the set you found.

AndreaAndzic The second one also needs a box. That last one is an indoor camera so I'm not sure if it would be alright pointed out through a window but possibly not with reflection. I think the one I sent you for specific outdoor use is the best option as long as you are comfortable setting it up.

AndreaAndzic Yes that one looks alright for the money because it has audio and connects direct with WiFi. It can also connect to your Internet router with an ethernet cable if WiFi range isn't good enough. It's similar to the one I have but worth the extra few quid for the two way audio. It can also record direct to memory card which is useful.

AndreaAndzic Yes. Maybe buy one, see what you think of it and then buy more if it works well for you. It's less risky that way.

Ps, you can easily extend your WiFi range with a number of options. Home plugs, or a cheap router setup with the log in removed

AndreaAndzic You would need to get one if buying any of the ones in the links. They are not stand alone cameras.
