Seeing the Northern Lights

Ask a Question

Has anyone ever been on a trip to specifically see the northern lights? Where did you go? How was it? Would you recommend it?

I've been to Iceland a in the winter to try to see the northern lights, but unfortunately they didn't flare up while I was there. I was a little disappointed, but it's a nice place to spend some time.

I can imagine that it’s unlike anywhere else in the world. The videos I’ve seen are amazing, but it does look very, very cold

Yes I went to Iceland to see them for my honeymoon, we stayed in Reykjavík and it was beautiful. I would recommend the city as there’s way more to do than that and it is a beautiful place. I wouldn’t advise anyone to go specifically for the lights as they’re very hit and miss and like our guide told us underwhelming! obviously it was great to see them but they don’t look like they do on google images with all the editing etc.

I've seen cycling holidays in Iceland that looked amazing with incredible landscapes and that with the possible bonus of seeing the northern lights is very appealing.

Hi hspexy were I live in the for North of the highlands 48 miles from John o grot. I very lucky because I see them most nights when the weather is clear. They are lovely to watch. I love it when they are dancing and change colours. Reds green and blue. They are hear from around October to about March. So I don't have to pay money to go out see them. I just go out my back door and watch them. I know people pay a lot of money to go and see them and not all the time you get to see them. It just depends on the weather and how dark it is. Hear to night is a lovely clear night and they were out. But I did not stay to long because it was -7 icy cold. Hope you get to see them. You will

Love it and something you will never for get. For some it's a once in a life time. Image

hspexy it is lovely. This part of Scotland is the best place to see them. Lots of b and b are full booked with people wanted to see them. But what I think is a shame b and b put there prices up. Because they know people will pay it. 🦉

nicolajaynehend i guess it’s perhaps the only time of year they make money, so they’ve got to hike it up to make it worthwhile. If it’s indeed a unique experience, people usually pay for it. Thankfully you never have to 😊
