Selling on Etsy and Facebook Marketplace

Hi I was wondering if anyone has any experience with selling on Etsy or Facebook marketplace and what this is like? Particularly in comparison to ebay? What are the fees involved? For instance, on eBay you pay 10% to eBay and also 30p + 2% in PayPal fees.

What are the fees for selling on Etsy? And how do you take payments? What is the fee for this?

I find Facebook the best place to sell furniture and big items - I usually sell items within a day of posting.. ebay I very rarely sell anything on despite having numerous ads i don’t know about Etsy fees but Facebook is free

Thanks for your reply? How do you receive payments when you sell things on Facebook? Do you just message people wanting to buy and give your PayPal/bank details?

lornaae some people pay by PayPal or bank transfer, especially at the moment with the Covid restrictions but usually its cash on collection

I sell on Etsy, sales are much lower that Amazon and EBay but if costs 20 cents to list and item for 3 months so worth having a go. Set of good price for tracked USA and you may get a few sales x good luck x

Thank you! I’ve had a look at the Etsy fees, it says if you accept payments through Etsy payments they take a 4% + 20p payment proceeding fee, do you also get charged a PayPal fee on top of this?

lornaae I haven't seen any Paypal deductions, think it's already included in those fees. The money sits in your etsy account and they send it to your bank. Mine goes in every Monday minus selling and listing fees

I sell on fb marketplace. I've never had any luck with ebay. Fb is free, so no fees at all. On fb you put up the ad for what you are selling, if someone is interested they will message you and when they have agreed to buy it they can either collect and pay cash or you can give them your paypal. It's very simple to do.

Marketplace is good as there isn't fee involved. The only problem is you need to trust people. For instance bought something by post and it never arrived so lost my money

That's doesn't seem very reliable. I used to shop at Shpock but gave up because sellers would take a decade to reply or make the business happen.

Now, I just use eBay for this sort of stuff. "Best Offer" option tends to be my favorite way of buying as I can try to low-ball and usually sellers accept it.
