Is Shampoo a Scam, Can Your Hair Wash Itself without It ?
Ask a Question
You hear of people saying they haven't washed their hair for more than 12 months , in Rasifarian style for example, and it has stayed clean and doesn't smell
But is this really the way hair care works ?
Myself , i wash mine every day when i shower with a mild shampoo , but i am in and out at speed and careful not to rinse out all the natural oils
I usually use the same brand which i find does the job for me
According to the experts in this article you do need to use shampoo to keep your hair in good condition
But a cheap shampoo can strip your hair of essential oils
It mentions that harsh shampoos that contain higher percentages of ingredients like sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium chloride or perfume can strip hair and cause irritation
I suppose it is an individual choice of to what shampoo to use as we all have different hair types
Are you a shampoo user or do you go au natural ?

I couldn't go out without washing my hair gets too greasy most shampoo makes my daughters head very itchy so we only use TRESemme
I think hair care routine is like skin care routine, different things work for different people and so everyone has to experiment a bit to find out what's best for them.
Definitely not a scam, your hair definitely needs washing. My hair was awful after spending months in intensive care and lots a lot of it too. You would never believe it to see how long and thick and lovely condition it is now.
I've used lots of different shampoo over the years, I usually just use whatever is the cheapest. I definitely need to wash my hair. I can go 3 days without washing my hair but on the 4th day it needs to be done as it is really greasy.
When I was younger I needed to wash and style my hair daily . Now I’ve aged I don’t need to wash it so often but still need to style it daily.
I definitely need shampoo and would feel like my hair wasn't clean enough without it. I also cannot go without using conditioner. I've tried the trend of not using it before and I found no benefits to my hair at all. In fact it just made my hair feel horrible and was very dull.
I wash according to the condition its in. If I’m swimming, I always wash but I know the shampoo can dry out the hair so it’s important to use conditioner- nothing fancy needed, just coconut oil will suffice
I only wash my hair once a week. Have done for years. Used to wash it everyday but managed to stop it. Your hair does clean itself but I'm not doing that. Nuts to that it gets really greasy in the weeks leading up to the self clean.
Lol that’s not possible 12 months of not washing hair yuck I have to wash mine every 4 days lol gets oily 3 days after washing it
My hair is curly so I need to use products to trim it so need to wash them out. It doesn't really get greasy
I can remember in my younger years using a bit of talc in my hair if I didn’t have time to wash it - was ok as i am blonde. Of course these days we have sprays of dry shampoo. I have been stuck in hospital not being able to wash my hair- I just kept it tied up all the time. But oh how lovely it felt when I could wash it !
Couldn't imagine not washing my hair, I do it every other day, I use Aussie shampoo, it's the only shampoo that doesn't make my head itch
