Sharing Competitions

Ask a Question

Am I the only one that has given up sharing competitions on here, because every time you try to share, someone has beaten you to it?

Please don’t give up. Since joining this site I love entering the competitions not that I’ve won anything but I live in hope.

I do not post competitions anymore as I simply do not have the time. I commit to posting a few deals and catching up with a few LDers on the freebie and competition page. Other than that I dip in and out throughout the day. There is always something happening! Xx

I understand your frustration craftyclaws04 It would seem that some people are 'harvesting' en-masse the comps from other sites and posting them ASAP to ensure that others don't get a look in. This does, of course, make it far harder for others to post comps when they get them in emails or just by searching etc ...

The rules have also changed/been enforced (not sure which) whereby if someone else has posted the same prize, even if it is on another site - you can't post yours - which seriously limits the comps available too and means that unless you know about all the places to look for the comps you, as a comper or poster, are at a serious disadvantage. 🐞

Tom Is this duplication of comps specifically applied to WINIT dailies or to all comps? I'm still a bit confused. 🐞

Tom It does seem strange that in order to post a competition these days you now have to do a search on the prize to make sure that no-one else has posted the same prize whether that be the one you are trying to post or indeed on any other site.

A comping site should surely allow all comps (perhaps excluding the Winit dailies) providing the source of the comp is different?

Maybe there is something that I am unaware of i.e. that you are veering away from the comps and want to concentrate on deals instead? 🐞

tumblespots If comps are making way for deals I am afraid I will cease to be a member. I only use LD for comps and chat as I have no interest in deals, there is nothing I need/want, though I do post some for others from time to time.

I get very confused about comps because I have had two deleted recently, one because a purchase was required and the other because the prize was confined to one area. In my four years of membership I have seen comps like this constantly and with the former folk were required to write (purchase required) in the heading. Surely it is not very democratic to not give people the choice of whether they wish to purchase an item in order to enter? Same with latter really, as long as it is made clear that the comp is a meal in a certain area (or whatever) the individual can please themselves as to whether they are willing to travel the distance required?

Lynibis Yes, they have made a lot of changes over the years and now they will only accept comps that have at least one free entry! The limiting of comps that are 'local' is another one that I personally don't agree with. The third thing is that if sisters sights promote the same comp, you can only post one of them. I think that this is a very shortsighted view and shows that comps are secondary in the LD owners minds. Anyone new to comping would not know which sites have sister sites and that they aren't supposed to post these comps. There are too many rules regarding comps but deals, as you say, are able to be posted willy nilly. Tom

Yes I have also given up posting competitions as either someone else has already posted. Or when I have managed to get post accepted, I normally get a message a few hours after to say it is a duplicate. So sorry stopped wasting my time. I fully appreciate others that do mange to post competitions πŸ‘

I'm on here primarily for the comps, so it's disappointing to hear that a lot of them aren't actually being posted on here anymore.

Hey laraquinn πŸ™‚ I think it's actually the opposite problem in that all the competitions are being shared by LD members and it's becoming more difficult to find ones that aren't already on LD?

We have introduced a guideline to try and reduce "duplicate" competitions where multiple websites host the same competition with the same prize. We introduced this rule after member feedback as some competitions are shared across many different websites (sometimes 50+) and it was felt that people wouldn't want 50 of the same competition "clogging up" the site.

---

tumblespots just to follow on on your question above, we certainly aren't veering away from competitions. The changes we've made recently were in an effort to improve the comping section πŸ™‚

It's a tricky one as we try to strike the balance between guidelines that the majority of the community support and also keeping them straightforward enough that it doesn't become impossible for members to keep on top of.

We are still listening to feedback though and open to tweaking things! But in short, we still love competitions and no plans to demote them on Latest Deals!

Kelsey some people post around 16 a day. I thought there was a limit to how many you could post daily.

craftyclaws04 Hey πŸ™‚ There is a limit to how many competitions you can earn points for each day but we don't currently have an absolute limit to the number you can share.

The original rationale behind this is that if there's a competition out there, we'd love it to be on LD so that compers can find it as quickly and easily as possible. The members who chose to share above and beyond their point limit do so altruistically to help others out without anything in return πŸ‘

Kelsey I have certainly noticed a decline in comps recently, but I think that is more to do with Covid than anything else. Many companies are probably holding back from offering prizes as they have to watch the pennies and lots of things (shopping vouchers, meals, holidays) cannot be used during the pandemic.

As LD membership has grown so much recently it is obvious that it will be harder to find comps that someone else has not found first, but it is good to see that some posters doing 30 plus per day have stopped or left.

I agree with laraquinn that less comps are going to be posted.

Imagine there is a new film is released, there are many different sites that offer, by way of promotional material, either merchandise, a BluRay or a DVD of it. We are now only allowed to post one of these. I know that if it's a great film compers will want to enter to win it everywhere they can to increase their chances of winning. Under these rules they can't do that through LD and if you are new to comping you won't know where to go to look for the additional places to enter ergo there are less comps available through LD. 🐞

Hey πŸ™‚ Just to double check we're on the same page -

If company A is running a competition for a Lion King blu-ray and company B is running a separate competition for a Lion King blu-ray they can both be shared on LD. It's only if Company A is running a competition but it's advertised on Websites B, C, D, E, F, G that we only allow it to be shared once.

If we are on the same page - would it help if we potentially tried to automatically list other places you're likely able to enter? (I think some comps are always shared across the same network of websites?).

We would also encourage the original poster or fellow members to add extra details to a post such as alternative places you can enter. Perhaps that's another addition we could make - a way that you can "enhance" an existing competition post by adding an alternative entry link? And we could potentially reward points for that?

Kelsey I think it is counterproductive to have to list 'other places to enter the same comp' on the original post and very long winded for the poster (with different links and different answers) especially as not all comps become available/live at the same time and once people have marked it as entered they will not re-visit it to see if any additional information has been posted - very time consuming!!

I am assuming that the sister sites you are talking about are the

female first

Cricket365

football365

golf365

love rugby league

planet football

planet F1

planet rugby

Teamtalk

tennis365

and that you can only post the comp from one of these.

I can't believe how some people have shared 16 or more competitions today. I thought you were only allowed to share maybe 4 a day at the most.

You only get points for sharing 3 per day but you can, in theory post as many as the site will let you before it stops you by stating that you are a 'sharing machine'!

And yes, others do post a lot but I believe they 'harvest' them from other comp sites - again leaving less for other compers to post. 🐞

craftyclaws04 It is frustrating isn't it. I had a 'local event' put straight into moderation this morning - then it never got posted because of being 'local'. I do appreciate that it was in fact localised (not to me though) but now people aren't being given the choice to enter these local comps, which is a shame, as you have a much greater chance of winning.

The only problem with that is that we aren't allowed to post them!

I think this is a mistake and should change.

I hope you are having a good weekend 🐞

Kelsey I've just made a booboo! I shared a comp, after checking that it wasn't already here (by title) and checked it again after posting - and it was only then that it popped up as already shared by a diff radio station and wasn't picked up. I've ended up reporting my own comp as a duplicate which seems crazy.

You could have just used the 'three dots' to edit your own comp and marked it as expired, although even when I have done this myself - you often find someone else also reports it! 🐞

That problem isn't as bad recently but I understand what you are saying. However, you must remember there are now 1.5 million members so they are bound to clash quite a lot receiving same comp emails etc.

I am more frustrated by having my comps deleted because a) they are local and b) a purchase is required. I do not understand either of these as a person has the choice of entering or not, especially if it is something they buy anyway, I can't see the problem. Many of the Waitrose comps on here require a purchase but remain. Also many remain that are local to one place or you can only enter if you live in a specific area. The latter I can understand but my recent one was afternoon tea in Norfolk which anyone was free to enter and decide for themselves how far they were willing to travel.

Lynibis I've noticed inconsistencies with moderation when it comes to the "local" comps, some get removed and some don't. If they don't allow local entry/limited entry comps I can understand that, as they prefer comps that the majority of members can enter, but why then do some get to stay up?

I've noticed that there aren't as many people sharing comps these days, it's such a shame because there are so many competitions going live every day during the week, and a lot of them never get shared here. I come across and enter so many competitions each week, I share quite a lot on here but there are so many more out there. I've been trying to share extra lately to try and get more up on here for people to enter, but we could do with more people sharing comps so they're all on here.

Thank you angelik for continuing to share. I try to share all I come across via the hundreds of emails I get, but most are already posted.

I wouldn't have a clue where to find more comps as I am aware I am probably not entering as many as I should in order to have the most chance of winning.

angelik I share the comps that I find which haven't already been shared! There are some comps that are available across different platforms, such as magazine or radio sites, so they can't be shared as they are duplicates, so I sometimes get a notification saying it is a duplicate, so I don't always share those ones, but I've noticed there are less comps being shared than there used to be

Lynibis I share comps where you have to complete a survey to enter, they never get taken down. I've noticed there's been a bit of incorrect reporting in the comp section lately, I've had a few reported as duplicates that obviously weren't. I just email LD and they put them back up.

angelik tbh I really can't be bothered, they could save themselves time and trouble by just checking when they are reported, then they wouldn't have to deal with endless queries.

I have only been posting because of this chat but can't post locals, can't post surveys, can't post purchase required comps, I give up and am not desperate for 10 points lol.

Twice lately on two different sites I have tried to post a comp. Sites I have posted from before. For some weird reason the url is reverting back to the url for the site but not the competition, nor will it paste correctly in the description box. Anyone else?

It is as if the sites have put some sort of thing in place so their comps can't be shared on other sites. Also this is happening when I try to post Sainsburys deals.

Given the amount of pipped to the post msgs I get and 'this is a local event' I am finding it too much hassle to even bother posting comps anymore. 10 points is hardly worth the effort. I would sooner the points be taken away from chat and 20/25 given for comp posting, especially as it is taking such an effort these days.

Lynibis yes this has happened to me a number of times. I assume it's the website not wanting people to enter via outside links. I've also found that some links I've provided were initially fine, but after a while any prospective LD entrant would be rerouted to the website's homepage.
