Sharing Competitions

Ask a Question

I've noticed some are posting lots of comps in a day. Can someone tell me if I've missed something? I often get a run of competitions from same source but I only post 3 per day (4 if entry time is short) as points awarded "Sharing a competition - 10 points - 3 competitions per day" leaving the others to give someone else the chance to post, after all we are all chasing the same comps/points. πŸ™‚

I never posted a competition as can never know where to find them. I had a telephone call once saying I won a free holiday. Got very excited πŸ˜‚ until I found out it was one of them time share things.

I've never had one of those but I've had a couple of different ones ring up saying 'you entered our comp.....' 'unfortunately you haven't won this time but....' and quite by chance I found they didn't like emails, so just by saying they'd rung at a really bad time and to send info by email seeings they had my address, I never heard from either of them again! 🀣 x

What I don't understand is why people keep sharing competitions in the freebie section when there is a specific place on here for competitions.

I mainly post 3, but will occasionally post 4 or 5+ competitions in a day. I'd still be looking for competitions even if LD didn't exist. I usually find a lot more than I post.

I made this observation myself on a thread quite some time ago lilyflower. I got so fed up with getting the whoops message every time I tried to post a comp so I gave up. I rarely post any now as it is wasting my time and I don't even get the 30 points.

I don't understand why he posts so many as it is a bit selfish especially when he doesn't get anything for them, just deprives others from upping their points.

Exactly what I thought. Why continue posting for no points, give someone else a chance, getting 'whoops' all the time is a real turn off. PS couldn't find your thread unless I wouldn't have started this one.

Lynibis I have said many times before that I think it's unfair, I'm sure Mrmac will understand when I say that I did query it with the team as one afternoon I literally lost a couple of hours or more trying to find comps to post and it just got ridiculous, I was getting quite depressed, which isn't like me, and I said to them it was turning into a full time job without the full time pay, their response was 'he doesn't get extra points but he really enjoys doing it' they just couldn't grasp the fact that it makes it hard for other people and what makes it even worse is, and I'm sorry Mrmac, but when you yourself post a comp he makes a note of it and has to get in first to post the next comp from that brand which is even more unfair!!

When so many members are affected and many have commented on this and nothing is done, it makes you wonder what is going on!! x

lilyflower no, I commented on a thread but didn't start one. In fact can't remember the topic but it had veered off subject and was quite a while back so you're was welcome vindication.

JoTarpley mmm I thought folk who shared too much were curtailed. I remember a mentor asking politely if he could supply the answers, which he never does unless obvious, but he complained he didn't have the time, despite posting 30 comps a day sometimes!

Lynibis It doesn't seem like it does it! Different rules apply to different people maybe? I wonder if my comment will be taken off or even the whole post but I've been completely honest and I work hard here so by rights it shouldn't!! x

Lynibis there used to be a cap on competition posts, but I believe it was lifted last year. Tom made an announcement about the change. However, it maybe worth limiting competition posts again to around 5, as it does appear to be an irritation for many.

ACRLynibislilyflower Well kikogpe for one doesn't seem to want a cap saying that a lot of comps won't be posted but I think it's an UNFAIR system, yesterday I decided to give up posting them which is sad as I USED TO really enjoy it, then, when I saw one at the last minute, I decided I could just post that, but what happens this morning?? I log on to find Mrmac has already posted YET AGAIN, I'M ABSOLUTELY SICK OF IT!!!

JoTarpley It's like waiting for a NEXT sale, you have to be in the queue just after midnight in the hope of getting 30 points. I have managed to post 3 this morning though. πŸ™‚

JoTarpley the thing is, comps seem to be an added perk on the site and I can't see that the LD site owners make anything from them, so what if a few slip the net. I have been comping for 30 plus years and am happy to source comps myself alongside doing the ones on LD. As I said before all comps eventually find their way here, with or without prolific posters. Maybe cap them at 5 or 6 with points for first three as it currently stands.

lilyflower Noooooooooooo!!! Bet you are well *********!! So you had the original poster tell you this time, you know I had that with a newbie a while back with a couple of deals, he kept messaging me saying 'I've just posted that, I've just posted that' expecting me to actually know and I had visions of a little kid jumping up and down screaming 'that was mine, that was mine' it was soooooo funny!! πŸ˜‚ 🀣 πŸ˜‰ x

JoTarpley I can understand your frustration but I am a simple user here and the reason my opinion is against it is pure because you can't guarantee that all the competitions will be posted by other users.

I have no problem with this rule being changed and if enough users advocate for the change, I'm sure Tom and Kelsey can revise this based on the opinion of the majority.

Cheers

I tend to defend quality instead of quantity here, mainly competitions that are shared without the answers, and often without a minimum of basic information. If you are sharing the competition with other users, the minimum is that you share the complete information, otherwise people do not need you to share it, being able to search the internet freely.

But I am against limiting a user's number of posts, basically because doing so will stop many competitions from being posted. A user may have posted the same competition that you tried to post after him, but he may also have posted many others that you would never share, limiting the amount of different competitions posted on LD.

The down side of that is that people like me just don't bother any more as we are always pipped to the post, therefore comps we exclusively find don't get posted. Those who post regularly all get the same emails and search same places, so they all end up here in the end. If someone is up all day and night deliberately trying to be the champ of posting no one else stands a chance.

Many of the serial posters block post competitions from one magazine, eg Magazine A and know from the publisher that the same competition will be in Magazine B, C and D. Anyone who does one comp will also find the others.

I don't think restricting the number of posts allowed will reduce the number of competitions but rather will deter some from posting as 'why bother'.

As for posting competitions

a) if an answer is required can the poster suggest the answer

b) indicate if there are area/age restrictions

c) say if it is 'luck dip'

lilyflower if you think about it posting every comp on one particular magazine is a bit like posting every flavour soup as a separate deal. If you do those comps you can't help but see all the comps and can enter as many as you like.

kikogpe I could never understand those who share competitions without also sharing the answers to questions. If you aren't going to share the answers then there's not really much point in sharing the competition in the first place.
