Shop Saving Cards
In the News
Is it just me or are people dubious about saving throughout the year with the savings cards, this year I only did Iceland and only have £50 on it as you never know who is going to be the next chain store to go, years ago I would have argos wilko farmfoods
Would like to know what people think
Nothing wrong with saving cards they can really help if you low on money one week and need to get a food shop in for the family.
But don't you think to yourself what happens if I have put a few hundred pounds on a card and the shop goes in to liquidation
JaneWest you should be able to spend the money surely before they go into liquidation or whilst their in liquidation
JaneWest I agree, gift card balances etc are always the first thing to be frozen when they announce liquidation so I never keep very much balance on loyalty cards nevermind savings cards.
I think they can be a good idea ie Iceland always have a good deal on cards, but I personally would not stck too much for the obvious reasons. Bigger firms than Iceland have gone bust lol
It's the first year I haven't done the usual savings cards - Asda and Iceland - for the same reasons as you at the back of my mind. Asda have recently made their staff sign up to an incredibly unfair contract, asking more but giving less, and it made me wonder if they are struggling and possibly in trouble.
I know what you’re saying. if you can save on a card, why not just open up an addition current account and pop the odd £1 in there instead of a single store card? There’s lots of other ways you can Save too
It would be easiest just putting it a bank but with the card like Iceland and farmfoods if my bill is around £22 I would just ask them to round it up to £25 on my savings card so over the year you just don't notice and it does add up and I would do the same with other shops but may be bigger amount, but not nowadays. It is a shame though
I used to collect Morrisons savers stamps all year & do big Christmas shop with them, but I haven't the last couple years as I now tend to go to Tesco who I only recently discovered also do saver stamps.
I was chatting with a friend yesterday who has several dogs and I asked if they have pet insurance. They don’t but put money aside every month then when it’s a good lump sum buy Premium Bonds. Apparently you can cash them in and of course win. Maybe that’s a plan you could adopt.
