Shopping Tracking?
Ask a Question
Good morning I was wondering if there was a way to keep track of your spending on an app? My mum would like to keep a better eye on what she is spending on shopping and bills. She doesn’t have a laptop to do a spreadsheet. Thank you for your help and advice
I am not sure why apps are needed for everything these days, nothing wrong with old fashioned pen and paper.
I keep a little notebook in my handbag and write down my balance. I then add pension, wages etc on the days I know they go in. I take away all my direct debits (even if they are deducted on different days) so I know I have allowed for all my outgoings and what I am left with I am free to spend if I wish. Mentally I divide that sum by 4 so I know that in any week of the month I won't spend more than that but I take each spend from the balance as I go along.
I have a pc, tablet and smartphone but have never learned spreadsheets and wouldn't bother with one just for spending. I do online banking though.
Lynibis I'm with you on this. I just rule up a page with date, description, money in, money out and balance. Makes it easy to check online bank accounts.
Grannyclock lol, we must be of a similar generation.
I did a bit of bookkeeping in my younger days and as long as you are numerate I think it is much easier to do rows of figures in a book than learn to do it on spreadsheet. However I do agree it adds up for you, although we used adding machines!
She could sign up for a Revolut card since it informs users about spendings and it tracks, plus it has many other useful features. Disposable virtual cards are handy for online purchases (and paid trials).
Just for shopping, make a list on the phone or paper and use the calculator to add it all up if she wants to hit a target value (£20, £25, £30+).
