Silly Rules around Christmas Time

So we now live in a very PC environment where people are afraid to upset one another, or rather people are afraid of the possibility of upsetting someone
And so as a rule, secret Santa has been banned in one of the offices I've worked in...perhaps in case people get rubbish gifts? (Which is definitely the case!)
have you had any restrictions imposed upon you this season?
The minority tends to win over the majority on things like this. I bet most people still wanted the secret Santa and the fun is usually about getting rubbish gifts. This is why we lose traditions because someone decided it might upset someone. but if that’s the case then that person can chose not to take part rather than everyone not being able to take part
I agree. That being said I’m surprised christmas doesn’t get cancelled altogether, as some people don’t celebrate it...unfortunately I am sure one day that’ll happen 
hspexy Christmas will never get cancelled altogether. The meaning of Christmas has changed and its tradition for many that don't even have a religion. Most people that celebrate it these days aren't celebrating it for religious reasons. Minority religions don't get offended that we celebrate it. They also don't get offended by Easter eggs, and that's not why they're not called Easter eggs on the box, unlike what the right wing media would love us all to believe. I think these days, people get more offended at what the media tells us minorities are offended by, even though they're not. Don't believe the lies.
There was one time it nearly did at my office, mainly as people argued about where we were having it. It can be a right headache organising it to keep people happy (the person organising it actually dropped out to avoid facing the backlash on the day)
MeestairChrees media has a lot to do with everything. im sure they make stories is to cause trouble. More religions now do get involved with christmas and they aren’t offended by it at all. but it still is the minority that win and I don’t mean religion. these people that fight for rights for people when people aren’t bothered by it if that makes sense.
Faye1 the media twist everything, and yes they do it to cause trouble and to get people to act the way they want them to. It's why we're in such a politically awful mess at the moment and have been for years.

I personally have had enough of this pc environment I still speck my mind if it upsets that person tuff this world has become full of cry baby snowflakes who have to go crying to the media for a bit of attention
This whole world has gone mad! I sometimes wish I was born in a previous generation where the world was a nicer place and people were less sensitive and pathetic
Same here. I’d fare better as I often speak my mind and say it as it is, even though I’ve been told to be more ‘tactful’. I don’t think I know the meaning of the word
Mr Tumblespots and I are both convinced that we belong in a previous era too, (it's as if we were born 20/30 years too late) I find this world quite hard to fathom and would prefer a simpler way of life. 
tumblespots same here. When I travel, I much prefer going to places where live is simpler, where people’s minds are untainted by what we have to face over here. A much less complicated way of living
I doubt very much it has been banned because of offending people who don't celebrate Christmas. Many people in this country who are of other religions celebrate it. It isn't a religious holiday anymore, not to most people. It's just tradition.
You've mentioned that it might have been banned because of rubbish gifts being bought, so what does that have to do with being PC? Was a reason really not given why?
On the topic of secret santa, one office where I work doesn't do it anymore because someone bought someone else something that was deemed a bit inappropriate. Some people don't have enough money to throw at presents they may not get anything from from too. There are loads of reasons why it could have been cancelled on your office. But I'm surprised nobody gave a reason.
We’re not allowed any form of Christmas decoration at our work in case it offends someone, and they also said it looks tacky... I think it’s just cost cutting though, they can’t be bothered to waste money on decorations 
we’re also only allowed to wear Christmas jumpers on one day in December, because they look unprofessional.
Oh that’s a shame. I love Christmas jumpers, and though I guess it’s not standard workwear, I think it brightens up a workplace
Some people get very upset about Secret Santa....
I think the problem, that usually the management set an amount what suits them and make others to do it....
I was thinking what about handmade gifts? I think they would be great, instead of spending a lot...
I agree, something handmade, but I know some will make an effort and others won’t. I’ve only worked in offices where the budget is only a fiver, so there’s never been a problem for me
No, except don't get very drunk and do something stupid at the Christmas party. I'm not a fan of Secret Santa. In my experience people often use it as an excuse to offload bad presents they have previously received. Worse yet are the people who take a present, but 'forget' to buy a gift for their appointed colleague.
