Simple Blood Test Could Spot Breast Cancer Five Years before Any Symptom

In the News

A simple blood test could spot breast cancer five years before any symptoms, saving thousands of lives.

Experts said the method was “promising” and could be used to screen women, replacing mammograms and allow treatment to start far earlier, when it is most likely to succeed.

How great would this be? Mammograms are painful and anything to prevent me having one is brilliant in my eyes.

Never had a mammogram so can't relate on how painful they are but I think this is a brilliant idea. I know some people hate getting their blood taken but for a life saving test it would be worth it. I think breast cancer screening should start younger and this would help to do that.

Yes, it isn't just older people who get it. I am needle phobic myself so I am between a rock and a hard place on this, but over all I think the new way is a good thing. 🐞

tumblespots I used to hate needles and then I had to get my blood taken every 2 weeks when pregnant and numerous painful injections so it no longer phases me. I can even tell the dr which vein is the best to get blood from!

The link doesn't work for me but sounds like an interesting concept. I expect it would be a lot cheaper than mammograms as well with much simpler technology required.

I don't know what the problem was earlier but I think it is working again now. 🐞

Great. I would prefer a blood test to a mammogram any day, gosh it’s painful having your boob crushed between those plates!

If a man had to have his 'bits' squashed they would have found another way to do the test far earlier than this! 🐞

tumblespots you’re quite right. Mammograms hurt, pushing and squeezing whilst be told to stand still is no joke.

Did you mean that they are unable to do this test? I must admit I am skeptical, they always seem to have an excuse for another blood test. Perhaps it is just in the pipeline for the future? 🐞
