LottieMyya Sometimes when a computer doesn't have a disc drive, it can be got around in a few ways, if it has an SD card slot the contents of the disc can be copied to an SD card (using another computer). But probably the best way is to buy an external drive. You just plug into a USB slot.

Not recommending but something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-External-DVD-CD-ROM-Disc-Burner-Combo-Drive-Reader-Windows-07-08-10-Laptop/202950517685?hash=item2f40cb23b5:g:Ux4AAOSwETxegWzl ensuring you get one for Mac or Windows whichever you use. Check for best prices online.

Ann1984 Our answers virtually overlapped (mine was a minute before yours), I have had one for probably over 10 years, mine is built like a brick though and needs an extra power supply. I needed it to install a disc to allow me to install things on an XP system computer I had just bought. Do the newer flimsier ones work OK? You can of course use them as a DVD player on computers without a disc drive or when the installed one is broke. (although it's very easy to replace a broken one on most laptops).

Ann1984 The earlier ones were much bigger and needed a separate power supply and transformer. The newer ones are obviously USB powered. . . much handier.

This is identical to mine (definitely over 10 years old). Image

LottieMyya that's fine! I downloaded mine too. You need to download origin - that's the program that runs the sims 4. If you really need a disk drive you can buy a dvd to usb one that creates a CD drive. Only a tenner on ebay!

But when you look at computers to buy as that is how I read your initial post, it states the specs so you can compare. It is not the most resource hungry game

Asked son.(computer science & gaming whizz-kid.lol) he said should work(even disc or a downloadable) if specs are up to date,so newer one.not on a "old & trashy one" (his words,not mine,so i apologise,he didnt mean it personally.lol)

Depends on how well you want the game to run. Take this for example. My sister has the same spec laptop as me (but mine was a macbook) and her windows laptop costs £320 now and can barely run the game. Because of this I wanted a computer which are much cheaper as you can swap out parts when they become too old. Get yourself to pc world and ask some questions to the colleagues about gaming and they'll do their best to help you based on budget. I wouldn't recommend buying a second hand laptop because you don't really know what you're getting until you boot it up at home, and it's a lot of money wasted if it's no good. My partners pc cost £800 to build a i5 quadcore good gaming PC (mid graphics level) that ran games fine but we didn't like being in seperate rooms. He went to PC world and bought a gaming laptop (always more expensive than PCs) for £950. The things fans constantly are loud but runs the sims 4 very well. I can load the largest lots in the game without a problem. Gaming isn't cheap unfortunately.

The game is 5 and a half years old. So pretty much any modern laptop should be able to easily run it.

I'd have to agree those system requirements linked to are very low.

A fairly cheap Ryzen laptop would have no issues. Something like this;

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-15-db1000na-15-6-Full-HD-Laptop-AMD-Ryzen-3-3200U-4GB-RAM-1TB-HDD-Win-10/184153158516

Currently there is a 15% off code so about £270 minus topcashback/quidco and a few nectar points.

That would be up for running fairly modern games quite well.
