Which Site Do You Use for Money Advice?

Latest Deals

Image

Hey everyone! In our quest to be the UK's best money-saving community, we're thinking of writing more in-depth guides.

It'd be great to know what websites you turn to for advice on:

  • Guides
  • Insurance
  • Bank accounts
  • Money troubles
  • Credit cards
  • Travel
  • Mortgages
  • Bills
  • Student
  • Cars
  • Work & Benefits
  • etc.
Questions
  • Which websites do you use and why?
  • Which are the best and why do you like them?
  • What do you think is really important for you to trust an article?
  • Is there anything you think Latest Deals should cover?
  • Is there something you think nobody does well we should do?

Any thoughts, links to sites and advice would be appreciated. To be frank, we want Latest Deals to be the best. So the goal would be to look at those sites, see what they're doing and do it better.

By way of example, I think the Government's Money Advice Service is good. It seems to cover topics in a lot of detail and seems to be impartial. I really like the calculators they have on there, such as the "Baby Budget Calculator" and Latest Deals could do the same.

The Martin Lewis site is always a go-to for anything money related. It covers all sorts of money related issues and is a trustworthy site.

Can you remember the last thing you went to it for? (If you don't want to share, no problem!) It'd be interesting to know specifically which guide you found helpful 🙂

I like to check r/UKFrugal, r/AskUK and r/CarTalkUK. Additionally, I check r/beermoneyUK but it's mostly junk offers.

Money-Saving Expert and Gov's website.

If I am planning to make changes to providers or anything I check various comparison websites.

EDIT: Forgot r/UKPersonalFinance

MSE for general info about banking, insurance, cards, foreign currencies. It’s one of the oldest and trusted, and the latter being most important. I’d probably want a site that gave more in-depth details about holidays and travel, particularly as there are so many online agents around, you need to be careful on who to trust

Great thank you. With travel, is there anything in particular you tend to look for? I'm just thinking how there's quite a lot of flight comparison sites, hotel comparison sites etc.

Tom I suppose on top of comparison sites, you want to know if the companies are reputable - so say if you’re booking with holiday genie, you want to know their customer rating, how well they deal with disputes/cancellations, etc. It’ll also be handy to know if they charge hefty admin fees for anything, like changes, or taking credit cards
