Small Talk during Haircut No More?

In the News

Did anyone else hear about hairdressers and barbers not being allowed to have small talk while cutting your hair?

How do people actually feel about this?

Im normally in silence when i get my hair cut as i pretty bored with small talk lol.

Nope, first time hearing this! Sometimes I can make small talk but most of the time I struggle to hold a conversation. I prefer silence too.

mooncat I can see why they want to introduce it to reduce the time but I can see a lot of people complaining about they love to gossip lol

I feel like hairdressers may concentrate more with less small talk - not that I am going to go to the hairdressers any time soon!

Reminds me of the old joke -

the barber asks "how would sir like his haircut", the customer replies "in silence"

I dislike small talk at the hairdresser so it wouldn't bother me. Not sure when I'll be going though, not for a while

I don't think that I'll be going back to my hairdresser when she reopens tbh.

The wife has been doing a good job with the clippers, so I don't really see the point.

Same. But she's wanting to charge me £5... I *think* she's joking... I hope she's joking! Going to feel guilty for not going back though, especially after they'll be hit hard with this pandemic.

That’s good news, you never know who’s listening. I know it’s part of the service but I won’t miss it.

I love chatting to my hair dresser, he has been doing my hair for about 25 years, boy to man. We have a good old catch up and I registered his kids when I worked in registration and one of my boys did a stint there when he was 16 so we catch up on family too. He owns the salon so don't think any one will stop us chatting, he always books me in for 90 minutes instead of an hour anyway as I have such thick hair it takes him longer to cut!

Thats what hairdressers will do to get round if its by appointments only.

Agree, I rather the barber concentrate on my haircut than mess it up

I'm so pleased! I'm partly deaf and I hate it when hairdressers talk because I can't hear them properly and have to take my hearing aids out and then it's just conversation I struggle with. I find the whole hairdressing experience makes me very anxious.

I hate small talk, I always feel awkward when people ask what your plans are for the rest of the day and you have none 🤣 but the last time I had my hair cut, the hairdresser started talking about dogs and we didn’t stop talking about dogs for the entire appointment and that is fine by me 🤣

I struggle to stay awake let alone make small talk. I have friends who can't stand having their hair/scalp touched and the whole process is a punishment. I think I must've been a cat in the distant past because I virtually purr and fall asleep. I will embrace the new rule happily.....😂💤 💤
