Smart or Casual Theatre Outfit

Other

I won theatre tickets. That made me think: there are 2 different types of people at the theatre, those who dress up and those who go casual. What do you wear at the theatre? I go smart casual

I always think it's nice to dress up if you are going somewhere special but I've noticed too that it is either very smart or very casual. I don't get to go to go out very often so I personally would go smart casual to make myself feel nice 🙂 it's a shame people don't make as much effort any more. Not wearing trainers seems to be most young adults idea of dressing up where i live.

Congrats on your win. I have always made an effort for theatre as it is the only time I get to dress up and I think it is one of the few places to do so these days. People even seem to dress down for weddings etc these days. I would not go over the top though, I would be judged as much as those I judge for attending in shorts and t-shirt lol. I wore a long evening gown for the opera once but most others did too so glad I made the effort as I don't often mix with the hoi poloi. As an older lady it was nice to do so for a change.

Congratulations - lovely prize. OK I confess - if I go to a matinee or panto, I'm usually in jeans and a t-shirt or jumper. In the evening I will make more of an effort, tailored trousers or skirt and jacket. Tops I usually layer because often they have the air conditioning on high and it can be chilly, another time it's boiling! Have a great time.

Been a while but I used to just go casual - albeit 'nicer' casual! I don't really do smart! At our local theatre you can tell which people bought the dining packages a mile off because it's usually only them that do the long dresses/suits thing - they always arrive slightly later than everyone else; well-dressed but tipsy! Everyone else seems to be dressed as they want - no issues with jeans/trainers etc... Nice win - what are you going to see?

If it's opening night then it would be nice to dress up, but normally casual. In London at least there are so many old theatres with really uncomfortable seats and not much leg room. Comfort wins out, especially if it's a long production.

I think it depends what time you are going at and what you are going to see. If you are going to a matinee or a panto, then definitely casual. If you are going at night, then I would dress up a wee bit as I think it is nice to make an effort. As long as you are wearing something that you feel comfortable in and that makes you feel good then I think that is more important.

I dress up! But I hardly go out so any excuse to make an effort 😂 but you wear whatever makes you comfortable, there are no rules :-) most importantly enjoy the show!
