Snakes and Sea Divers

In the News

Olive sea snakes (Aipysurus laevis) are notorious for approaching divers. The animals have been known to swim right up to an unexpecting person and lick them, and they’ve even pursued people who’ve attempted to flee—behaviors markedly different from those of their land-based kin. Marine ecologist Tim Lynch and his colleagues may have figured out why: based on data from Lynch’s first hand experience with sea snake encounters, the researchers concluded that the animals simply get confused and mistake divers for fellow sea snakes or other marine life.

I'm not fit enough to dive but I would have no problem with a sea snake coming towards me, a little shocked or surprised if it came at me and licked me with out me noticing but would be fine with it

I tried scuba diving abroad twice and its a beautiful experience, but i did see a very ugly species of small snake close to me on one dive, showing teeth , i made a quick exit from it in case it decided it wanted a piece of me

Heres one you wouldnt want to meet , with the deadliest venom in the world

Not as bad as when my school entered me in a competition to swim the dee mile in the winter

Everyone was putting vaseline on their privates

My mum gave me deep heat

A few minutes later i was doing a rendition of jerry lee lewis' 'goodness gracious, great balls of fire '

Needless to say i only got halfway before retiring in agony

Love outdoor swimming Tel but first I've seen the Dee mile . Notice that all the serious water athletes are all of an age .Not yoot preening themselves on the river bank. I'm well clad and have a Thyroid problem so no sense no feeling lol .I did have an encounter with a capiscum once. Scratched mee eyes and privates lol. Don't recommend it at all!
