What is so Special about Fabric Swatches?
Ask a Question
Hello all.
Everyday I browse the freebie section on LD, I come across a numerous amount of fabric swatches which often outnumber the amount of other types of freebies.
I would like to know what is so special about them and why people seem to like them so much. Or am I just an oddball?
Thank you.
They are useful if you are doing some home improvements. You get to feel the texture of the fabric and the colour displayed on the website may be a little different from the real sample. Alternatively, people like using them for arts & crafts. Yes, you're an oddball
I love anything free, and fabric swatches are not as easy to come by these days as they used to. I use them for arts and crafts, and sometimes to repair worn out items. They come in handy for upcycling
Although there have been loads lately, I am guilty of sharing two myself, I think the interest goes round in generation cycles. I've always enjoyed crafting but when I first started I couldn't get enough. There are as many uses as your imagination will allow. I would also prefer that there were more of the skincare/fragrance freebies but they are becoming scarce.
I guess I can understand why some people would want grass samples. They are good for if you want to add a little garden to a doll's house.
RegularComper90 I suppose you are correct - I had never even considered that one. I am clearly, but happy to be, in the odd club too.
RegularComper90 I've never actually posted a swatch freebie, but I've applied for every swatch freebie I can find!!! I'm proud to be that swatch girl oddball. Like angemski said there are countless uses only limited by your own sense of creativity. At the moment I am working with my friends daughter who is learning how to use her first sewing machine. We are making all kinds of things for her wooden dolls house and figures such as clothes, curtains, bedding, rugs, towels, even door mats and a shower curtain. I also use the flooring samples especially the waterproof ones as coasters under my plant pots. I recently used fabric swatches and refurbished my Mum's friends dining chair seat covers with patchwork different coloured suade. she was made up with the results, I'm quite chuffed with how they turned out too! Also working on an wall art piece using man-made fibres to depict natural ones. There are a lot of posts for these but the swatch hunters will all tell you that they're not all the same, especially the upper-market ones, the quality of the material is from one end of the quality range to the other. I'd never be that person who buys a pair of curtains for 2 grand but i'm certainly the one who wants free samples of that luxurious material. not above pretending to be an interior designer to request more than the stated amount either! What is it my Mum calls me, oh yeah ...'Bold as Brass' but really I'm just a 'Right Cheeky Cow'. Soz for the lecturesque comment but you did ask RegularComper90 lol. x
gaelle0501 Thanks, if you'd really like to see some pics I'll put a few together, mostly create things for the joy of giving them to folks. Nurturing anything in yourself that brings out your creative side is the best thing ever for mental health conditions like depression, anxiety or just general stress. When engaging in C.B.T. (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) they actively encourage creative crafting, it seems to tap into our imagination and reconnects us as adults with our childlike wonder and sense of fun. Xx
lololol....oh that's so funny, side-tracked as ever I've only just recalled how the topic began! yeah spot on angemski , if I get some pics I'll post under chat as 'Fabric Sample Scenarios', 'Fun with Fabrics (ode to Sheldon, B.Bang) or 'Fabric samples Stole My Freedom!' (ode to Take a Break ) ...have to just say, no-one any age should reign in their inner oddball it's dangerous. x
