Sold an Item for £420 on eBay, Got a Final Value Fee of £50 for It.

I'm liking the new managed payment system eBay has, but dang, £50 of a fee? That's quite a hefty amount.
If it had sold for even more, I know the fee would have been even higher.
I once sold a batch of games on eBay for nearly £2k though the first bidder decided to cancel, and then there was a second buyer. That second one messaged me, we worked out a price, he made the payment through PayPal, came and picked it up. I remember this 'cause they (man and a woman) didn't seem too happy for whatever reason despite being friendly and all.
If that sale had been done via eBay, oof!, I sure would have lost a ton through eBay and PayPal fees. Good thing it all worked out.
I have gone to dislike selling on eBay lately due to their fees. Plus the buyer protection seems to always go in buyer favour where is wrong with so many scammers on there. Shame the £1 selling fees have stopped
I've read about eBay scammers, but I haven't come across any, thankfully.
Plus, I always provide photos for everything and verify it works before shipping it out.
Scammers ultimately waste their time, their account's reputation, and the sellers' time and money.
We very rarely use eBay. As you say the fees by them and then more fees by paypal plus the hassle of posting and wondering if they are happy with the goods outweighs the benefits.
Recently, two things are putting me off selling on eBay.
Firstly, the fees have shot up; and secondly, Items don't seem to be selling like they used to.

ebay are an awful company and do huge damage to the UK economy with all the fees pretty much exported. I think customer support may be in Ireland so there is not much if anything of a footprint in the UK. We really need a UK based company to take over and compete with ebay but it is so difficult when ebay are so established. Gross revenue is over $100 billion a year and net revenue about $12 billion but unsure about what percentage is the UK market. I seem to remember reading the UK was the second biggest market after the US but would still imagine probably only accounts for no more than 10% of overall sales allowing for other markets as well but many international ebay sites are much much smaller in those countries as they have more competition.
They pay almost no tax in the UK although now that they have to collect sales tax on imported items I assume that will change but in corporation tax and income tax, national insurance etc pretty much nothing compared to their huge sales volume because there are hardly any employees here.
£50 sounds about right, it used to be 10% of the final price but that has increased recently, I still use ebay but do not list anything that has a high value, these get listed with the promotions, I think it's save 80% of final values, you would've paid about £12 with that one.
