Is There Something We Are Not Being Told?

Other

I am not a conspiracy theorist, nor am I a covid denyer, I am looking forward to my vaccine and I obey all the rules to the best of my ability.

However, even I (a bit of a disciplinarian) find it rather severe that you can be sent to prison for 10 years for lying on a form coming in to country.

10 years of your life? Putting wardens and others at risk if carrying and making families suffer with possibly the loss of the wage earner. People serve less for murder.

I wonder why this is happening now when the R rate is lower than it was last April, we have the vaccine and numbers are going down. They keep reassuring us that these other strains are no worse and will still be covered by the vaccine with a bit of tweaking.

Why were harsh measures not put in place when people were rioting in the streets, blatantly disregarding rules, when the numbers were so much higher. Sorry this sounds a bit garbled but I can't help feeling that these harsh new measures have been introduced on the back of something we are not being told.

It’s insane I think they hiding something and it’s all now control. The suicide rate is getting higher too. If they were honest from beginning and put right measures in place then we be back as normal. This year going be pretty much same has last.

This is what I am thinking. It didn't take brain of Britain to work out that we shouldn't have been travelling (non essential) since last March/April. People have got away with so much for so long and at this late stage they bring in the most severe penalties?

One minute we're told R rate is down, less deaths, infections etc and then on this morning news a hospital saying they have more patients than last Spring. Nothing makes sense any more but it could be my brain turning to mush!

Add to this I have been told I must attend first aid training with 12 others next week!

Lynibis if things are as bad has saying then before you do that training you should need to have had Covid test, I would say same with people starting a new job, but no they don’t my husband has changed job 3 times and not even been asked if showed symptoms or had a test.

I can see riots happening soon similar to the London riots few years ago

Ann1984 I will just mentioning to my wife a few days ago, I can see riots happening this year especially closer to the summer if the vaccine rate doesn't increase dramatically and allow people out of lockdown.

Ann1984 I see what you're saying but I have been alone indoors since Christmas so am probably safer than my colleagues who have been working and mixing with parents, kids, carers, staff etc.

We are travelling in 3 work vehicles so not sure how any of us will be socially distant. The venue say the latest PPE will be supplied but that is a bit 'stable door' when we will have travelled for well over an hour !

Lynibis I think keeping control of Covid and where it goes when, is like herding geese. Extremely difficult. Even with great teamwork.

Imagine the geese in this video are the coronavirus, and that you are the government spokesperson responsible for giving the public a running commentary.

Over to Lyn, Chief Medical Officer, for today's 5pm update. Take it away Lyn....

"Yes we've got it under control...

No wait a minute...

Yes, we're heading in the right direction now...

Oh no...we're back to square one...

Oops, it's off again...

No, no, forget that, it's now fully under control as I speak....

Oh bugger it!"

1 year later they introduce travel restrictions! The whole situation is a joke and been handled one of the worst in the world. I wouldn't be shocked if they are hiding something.

Glad it's not just me. If there is something deeper and darker going on they are unlikely to tell us to avoid panic. But it will come out eventually as there is always a whistle blower willing to spill the beans.

I think it's the Government just being seen to do something after messing up so many time, The 10 years is a joke and not really ever going to be enforced nobody is ever going to accept that is fair and propionate in comparison to other crimes , just something Matt Hancock dreamt up to try and scare people . Also a joke is the cost of £1750 to stay in an hotel room for 10 days . We definitely need to be stricter on border controls but I don't see this as a solution and realistically how long can this go on for.

I was going to mention the £1750 but felt I had gone on too much so glad you brought it up. That will be a deciding factor as to whether people lie on this travel document as who would willingly go into a box with a bed and be a prisoner and have to pay for the privilege.

The government at the beginning tried to balance a decision around both commerce and health and at the beginning they went with commerce with regard a heavy lockdown same situation with regard travel where the UK is an important trade hub with very busy airports. Then you factor in we are the most obese nation in Europe I think so more likely to have covid deaths plus a very mixed ethnicity population with a fairly cold climate so less vitamin D in winter for people of darker skins so more deaths again. To their credit the government with the vaccines were very proactive.

Unfortunately we have now added hundreds of billions of extra debt on top of the close to £2 trillion of debt we left the EU with. So we going to have many decades of reduced living standards. Even outside the EU we still have about 40-50 years of debt to pay for.

Until people realise we need to run a trading surplus to pay back such debts and reconfigure our economy to reduce imports and massively increase exports then basically the debt problem is just going to get worse. You can't live on borrowing forever and the longer you have debt the more interest has to be paid. So I think changing the mindset of the population may take a real financial disaster and a large amount of suffering before people come to their senses about the economy.

People are already angry about price increases which they blame on Brexit although most of these price increases so far are unrelated to Brexit its mainly the pandemic and the closing of the tax loophole with non EU countries (aliexpress, ebay etc). The price of imported goods really needs to go far higher with much higher levels of sales tax for non-food items and luxury items. Certainly we need far higher taxation on holidays as we are now spending a huge amount of extra money on dealing with this pandemic and the movement of people through ports both sea and air. Ultimately we need to get people buying far less imported cars and going on overseas holidays less which really is solved through taxation. I don't think its the end of the world if people didn't change their car as frequently, maybe 5 years instead of every 3 years etc.

There are solutions to most of our problems as long as the economy is well managed although we may not like the solutions. The sooner you start the easier the adjustment will be.

The high temperatures we have had here for the last three years would suggest holidays abroad are not a need. There are so many beautiful beaches and places of heritage in the UK just as enjoyable. This would also help the environment.

Sadly many will be more obese after this lockdown, although strangely it has been the opposite for me. I eat twice a day, around noon and then between 6 and 7 so have lost about 20lbs.

We must all learn to do our bit in the pandemic aftermath, buying British, not claiming benefits where there is no real need, spending our money locally etc and not least of all keeping ourselves fit, lean and healthy to allow the NHS to recover!

Lynibis I would rather explore abroad so many cultures and sights out there instead of restricting yourself to your own country and more people should do it. Too help reduce the impact of travelling on the world stop corporate jets.

Getsome Ideally you tax it so people do it less frequently on average. Some people will prioritise their holiday above other spending and will continue to take regular holidays but at least with higher taxation the exchequer benefits.

There is also the future of air travel may mean much longer waiting in airports more processes and the risk of forced quarantining on return. It was already the worst bit about travelling abroad for a holiday but could get much worse and so staying in the UK will get more appealing.

10 years is the maximum tariff proposed (gives a Judge the ability to give up to 10 years) . Of course these days even 10 years only means about 3 years .

In practise this would never be the never be the sentence for just lying on the form , there would have to be a host of aggravating factors to even reach a trial .

And why not ? Going around the community whilst knowingly infected could well be considered manslaughter should one death or more be attributed to that person .

I did realise it was more of a scare tactic and there would be such an uproar if someone actually got 10 years. Although as you say it would depend a lot on other factors. It would be hard to prove if you deliberately went around infecting people or just innocently did so thinking you were safe/negative.

I bet there have already been cases of people deliberately infecting others insidiously. How would we know except deliberate act of spitting etc. People were imprisoned for knowingly infecting others with HIV.

Lynibis Yes HIV was the parallel I was thinking of many were jailed for deliberately infecting someone . There are numerous cases of people spitting at people , police officers even paramedics shouting "I've got Covid , now you have " .

From what I've seen they have all been treated as assault but what if they did actually have Covid and the person they spat at died eventually ?

Even now large parties are being broken up and £800 -£10000 fines issued on a daily basis . As restrictions are hopefully eased we have to keep up this harsh enforcement for those who flaunt whatever rules are in place .

If we slacken off with enforcement the Covidiots will be out in force again ☹😞

Golfforall yes I agree, I wasn't so much questioning the harshness but that they weren't harsher sooner. Which in turn made me worry that things are now worse.

I am sure I saw a news item a while back where someone has died from being spat on by a covid carrier, that certainly deserves the key being thrown away.

Lynibis That was a TFL worker , the lady was spat at and died some time later of Covid . However they could not prove a direct link so couldn't prosecute for manslaughter . Just think the police need to be really strict in enforcement now and the number fined needs to be well publicised .

Otherwise when the rules are eased a little the Covidiots will think they can do anything "give them an inch and they'll take a mile " 🙄.

Everything to me is wrong wrong wrong. Subliminal messages everywhere especially soaps. I don't watch them now but sometimes on after news in background. Characters walking INTO buildings,(houses, pub, shops) and taking masks OFF. Surely that is wrong way round. I mentioned above this course I am down for next week. This would appear to negate the fact I have kept myself in solitary confinement for weeks, even chose not to work and lose money, only to not be given the choice of whether to attend or not, my place is booked and paid for.

As far as I am concerned it is totally unnecessary and social distancing cannot be in place with 4 people, even on a mini bus. Why is the company even allowed to do courses when pubs, restaurants etc cannot open?

We are in lockdown despite the 'success' of the vaccine, lower R rate, people becoming suicidal, lower infections and deaths. To say I am confused is an understatement.

If the lockdown had been done correctly in the first place then we wouldn't be where we are now, a year later discussing this. We should have had a strict lockdown (like in Italy) starting much earlier than March 23rd, and our borders should have closed.
