Soups. Do You Make Any?
Ask a Question
Gonna do a roast chicken dinner (pigs in blankets included) for the wife tomorrow and I'm thinking about doing a broccoli and stilton soup as a starter.
Do you lot make any soups? Any tips for future soups would be appreciated.
I'm convinced you're a chef! My attempt at broccoli & stilton was mush. Curried parsnip, mushroom (make sure to use stalks and skin, most flavour), lentil have all turned out well.
lilyflower I've heard a lot curried parsnip soup, but I don't really like them.
But then again, some people say that the flavour of parsnip doesn't come through that much.
I think that I'd find it a bit sweet for my taste.
TheChimp Parsnips are best roast. Soup - Carrot and Coriander, Tomato, Leek and Spud, Celery, there are some nice ones here https://www.olivemagazine.com/recipes/family/best-easy-soup-recipes/
The easiest soup that we love is roasted butternut squash. Cut into chunks including the skin drizzle a little olive oil and roast on a low heat till soft. Sorry forgot to say add an onion too. Once soft blitz with water and stock cube and sprinkle chilli powder or curry powder.
Hi TheChimp I don’t know my recipe will help you or not but I will try my best give you right ingredients Chicken (Soup Ingredients)

6 cups Water Cooking instructions : In a stock pot heat the oil add all the vegetables together and cook till gently brown.
Add the dry spices and cook for 2 more minutes.
Now add the chicken piece and brown them till evenly colored.
Now add salt and 6 cups of water.
Let it boil over high heat. Once it starts boiling lower the heat and let the liquid simmer for 50 mins with the lid on. You should have about 5 cups of soup. Once done take it off the stove and let it rest for 20 mins. Use a strainer to strain the liquid in to a serving bowl and take out the chicken and shred throw them away. heat it before serving and Serve it with a squeeze of Lemon Juice any spelling mistake please forgive me i am so tierd been busy take care and enjoy the soup i hope your wife will like this recipe
Sanitation1234 Oh my days! That seems a lot of effort tbh.
Thanks for your advice though
Another easy soup recipe, peel and chop several sweet potatoes and a few carrots, boil then drain, blitz with a can of coconut milk and a spoon full of mild curry powder. Enjoy. Add a bit of water if it’s too thick for you.
Hi thechimp I make soup ever other day. And freeze it. After you had your chicken dinner put the bones in a pan cut up half a carrot and half onion. Full with enough water to cover the bones and cook on a low heat for one hour. When its done drain the stock in to a bowl and let it cool now you have a stock for to make your soup. And you can freeze it. This is what I do. It's great to make a home made soup much better then a tin. Which is full of sugar and salt and the stock makes a lovely leek and potatoe soup. Or a chunky veg soup. Or any other home made soup
Injoy your meal on Sunday.
Cullen skink ( smoked haddock soup ) onions, leek, butter, Smoked haddock flaked, milk, carnation milk, tea spoon of sugar, boiled potatoes. Double cream too if you want it extra creamy, Absolutely delicious
i make a hearty homemade soup, with carrots, potatoes, chickpeas, butternut squash, chicken stock and onion (sometimes add tomato too) which I blend and then add chunks of chicken. My 16 year old junk food loving step son loves my soup and chooses it over takeaway!!
my mum told me with soup to always stick to one colour palette - don’t mix green / orange / red ingredients..
Leek and potatoe soup - easy to make chop up some leek and potatoe and onion bring to boil until soft and then blitz together to make smooth and add double cream and some salt
FruitShoot They certainly don't count when it comes to this discussion, but I am partial to a can of Heinz Oxtail or Chicken
FruitShoot Hi my father-in-law do take one cup hot Heinz tinned Tomato Soup with pinch of salt & black pepper every morning i hope TheChimp will not mind my vote for tinned soup too oh forget to say FruitShoot welcome on LD I hope your enjoy the day good luck for future on LD.
Soup!! It’s summer man, lol. Gazpacho is delicious if you can get over the fact it looks like vom. Come Autumn though and I’m making soup weekly. Butternut squash and bacon is lush but a great broccoli and Stilton does hit the spot

Heinz have been suggesting making soup ice lollies with freeze molds on their social media accounts. Given the hot weather I wouldn't mind a cream of tomato soup ice lolly
I make loads of soups all year round. We have them for lunch most of the time. They are great for weight loss (as long as you don’t have a huge wedge of bread and thick butter too!). I find the BBC food website is fairly reliable for recipes.
I made tomato soup at school once and it was so bad we all tipped it down the sink. i stick to tin soups now.
eyeballkerry I've never made a tomato soup because I don't really like tomatoes
MrsChimp will have a can of Heinz every so often though. I can't stand the smell tbh.
Best ever soup is a Welsh cawl (if you class it as soup)
jwhitaker537 Coconut and parsnip? Now that's a strange combination.
Not fussed on parsnip tbh, but I will cook MrsChimp honey basted ones when I do a roast
I make them very frequently. Last night was butternut squash with carrots and double cream. Delicious.
I used to make a lot of soups, would recommend the New Covent Garden soup recipe books.
My favourites were their cheese and bacon soup and Lentil & Smoked Bacon Soup, but they are meals in themselves.
Plus carrot and coriander is always a staple
I make a lot of soup, even though I don’t eat it myself!
Asparagus soup is a great one for this time of year - fresh and seasonal.
With the broccoli and Stilton, I blend my soup prior to crumbling in the Stilton just before serving.
