Stores from Your Childhood That Are No Longer with Us
Other
With all these store closures that are happening lately, this made me think back to all the stores I used to go to as a child that now cease to exist due to the companies sadly going bust.
So which ones did you particularly like and perhaps still miss to this day?
Here's mine:
- Woolworths - their pick and mix selection was heaven. I loved it all so much that when I was little I was visiting a Woolies store one day with my mother and when she wasn't looking I sneakingly stole some sweets and put them into my pocket, and fortunately for me at the time, not one person caught me. Naughty I know.
- B Wise - a great clothing store. We got some good deals from there.
- Kwik Save - my mother always used to do her weekly shopping here every Friday. Their frozen mousses were to die for.
I used to like c&a . Woolworths for their Christmas tree displays, my tree at home is decorated with just one colour, I think it's because of Woolworths memories
I remember Woolies, and now and again I pop to a nearby Iceland or Poundland, as they both seemed to have snapoed up most of their shops (some even still use the woolies baskets!). Woolies are still out in Australia, so I’ll check them out when I’m out there
I used to shop in Somerfields and Safeway, although I know why they closed, as they never kept up with the competition
I loved Food Giant! I used to absolutely love shopping there as a kid. I miss Woolworths too, it had everything you ever needed!
Loved C&A as a teenager. More miss the little shops from when I was a kid ... The local newsagents with great range of penny sweets, the amazing wine shop where Mum used to take in her empty sherry bottles on a Saturday and let my brothers and I fill them up from a massive barrel (think my love of wine came from that shop!!) A great deli where we bought all the herbs and spices by the ounce... often used to see Roald Dahl and his wife there! Happy memories
I like films and used to spend a lot of time in video stores like Blockbusters or in shops like Virgin Megastore or Tower Records
I had forgotten about B wise and Kwik Save. My mum used to shop there and would buy me a box of dolly mixtures to eat afterwards for being good in store. Woolworths kitted out my house when I moved in! Most of my kitchen stuff came from there. Down in the basement as the store was getting ready to close forever everything was reduced. I got so much from there. I liked woolworths - I bought my 1st albums from the record section there - MJ's BAD, then New Kids on the Block's hanging tough.
