Strange Gifts - Fathers Day Pork Pie

Ask a Question

Just saw this on the Asda website and thought it a bit weird a Fathers Day Pork Pie, surely there are nicer things to give to your dad. Do people really consider a pie a gift just because they write DAD on it in pastry? oh and then add 75% to the price. Just wondered if others thought it a strange gift or whether you would be buying one for Fathers Day .

I think it depends on the person- some people love novelty gifts like this, some people don't. I'm sure there are some dads who would think something like this was fun and be happy to receive it, and others who would think it was just silly and not a great gift.

Who doesn’t love a pork pie 🥧 and if your name is on it you don’t have to share

I like Pork Pies but to me it's just everyday food not a Gift. Just because they write a name on it don't see how that changes things , just seem a strange thing to give as a gift.

possy. Clearly I'm in the minority as others seem to like it , Asda have obviously done their research so it should sell well even thou a standard Asda pork pie of similar weight is only £2.25.

Aztec I personally don’t like pork pies, they have added that bit more on for the word ‘dad’ haven’t they x

possy Yep, clever marketing, add an extra bit of pastry made into a word and charge approx 75% more for it, shows how easily customers are fooled by the big stores.

My dad God rest his soul said he would never have made a spy because all the enemy would have to do is give him a pork pie and then threaten to take it away again and he would reveal all his secrets. He was absolutely mad about pork pies..them and a good glass of Port.So Pork pies and port would have made him a very happy bunny indeed.

I think if you lived a distance away this could be the equivalent of sending a bouquet of flowers 🙂 but there are normally discount vouchers around Mango4

I love a good pork pie and would be quite happy to receive one.......having said that I don't think I've ever had a good one from a supermarket before. Local butchers or bakers are far superior.

Another strange gift I saw was a DNA test for genealogy but I can see that causing a few problems!

You hit the nail on the head, write the name dad/ father on it and it becomes a gift. Maybe add it to a food hamper.
