Stricter Rules regarding Repeated Chat Topics

Feedback

Just like many others do, I love the chat section and enjoy contributing to meaningful threads. 🙂

However, I have noticed a lot lately that there are many repeated chat topics being posted all for the sake of a few points. It also makes the chat section kinda boring at times seeing the same old stuff being posted. One that comes to my mind at the moment is the tiresome 'cat vs dog' debate, which I believe there are currently 4 threads with that title.

I have noticed other members have mentioned this little slight annoyance. So I know I don't stand alone on it. As previously stated, I genuinely enjoy the chat section. I just think it needs tweaking a bit. 🙂

angemski Mentors are lovely people who help guide the community. Teaching and encouraging new members, answering questions, and handling reports (moderation).

Where you see someone with the bio description of Latest Deals Helper, that means they are involved in a greater capacity than most members, and may have specific responsibilities with the running of the community. For example, watching when vouchers are put into the wrong section, fixing pictures, improving titles, removing spam and more.

Hey Johnny angemski and co - just to follow this up - you can actually directly report a topic as a duplicate as you would a post. If you tap the three dots and choose "Report" you can put the reason in as duplicate and provide the link to the original topic. That way you don't need to remember who to tag 🙂

A feature in the works (after the LD app!) is to show possible duplicates as you create a topic - so whilst you type the title it'll show up underneath with possible duplicates so people sharing can more easily see if it's been asked before 👍

Kelsey Hey. Thanks. I hadn't realised you could do that for 'Chat'. That's handy!

Thanks for the heads up.

I have to say some of the Chat threads lack substance and it seems some peeps are just chasing points. If that is really the case I would rather points were taken away to avoid this.

I search here constantly for a meaty topic I can really debate on. I usually go away disappointed at being asked if I prefer this over that or do I like something else. The good topics get little or no response so I can only assume people do not have time, and that is being kind.

Chat could be used for all sorts of good things but the threads on book club and baby club died a death.

Another problem is the pc times we live in which, to a degree, has killed debate and conversation.

Lynibis I completely agree. I rarely look at Chat these days. I have run a couple of threads on chat. The Freebie and Competition Success page has stood the test of time and has built up a lovely community on this page. I haven't bothered with many other pages as some of the topics are so base. Xx

Lynibis I also set up this page as well for Survey websites. There is a debate whether surveys and product tests should actually be listed as freebies or comps. I do not think they should be either or receive points. Call me harsh, but it would stop the nonsense and keep things tidy. Only my opinion of course. Other opinions are always welcome... 😂

Ceebers I completely agree with your comments - product tests have such a short window and you have to be pretty savvy to apply and give the information that the brand is asking for, to even be shortlisted for the product. They are not readily available freebies. Loving your comp and freebie thread and will leave a comment later.

angemski Thanks for your comments. Let's see if anyone takes any notice of the comments or just goes for the points... Xx

Lynibis I've just discovered there is a 30 day limit for the topic so it can come up again.....and again.....😩

angemski yes I did know that so I am always careful to check on the rare occasions I report a duplicate. Think it goes for comps and deals too.

Lynibis I honestly thought that was purely for deals. A pity there isn't a general chat topic that you can dip in and out of without have one theme. There was one a while back but I can't remember the exact title to bring it back.

I just had to report yet another repeated thread asking about Christmas shopping.

Yes I saw that one. It is yet more proof that so many people just post a topic but do not get involved in chat themselves. If they did they would realise that they are repeating topics that have appeared, not just once, but many times.

Lynibis I understand with new members. But a lot of these members have been using LD for a while.

Lynibis I have also been noticing lately that the 'this vs that' threads are now 'this OR that'.

Yes they are creeping back RegularComper90 . Lots seem to be from new members but they have quickly learnt how to get points on chat but don't read other threads or comments. It is great to see so many new members, I just wish no one would post silly topics as they don't make for good chat. But who am I to criticise I will just ignore those I don't have an opinion on.

I have noticed a few newbies are not replying or commenting on the threads they start and I must admit I am frustrated by that.
