Strictly Come Dancing - Do You Know How to Dance?
Ask a Question
I'm always impressed with people who can dance, my mother used to jive, it was pop music, so beside the odd slow dance at the end of the night you didn't dance with a partner. I wanted to learn how to dance, but it not something my husband fancied. Do you know how to dance ?
I cannot dance in any way, shape or form.
When I try it looks like I'm trying to stamp out a campfire.
Yes, I can dance As a child Highland and Scottish Country Dancing which progressed into the Waltz, Foxtrot, Twostep, Tango etc. Great fun and a good way to keep fit
My mum's a dancer so I was taught from a young age how to dance. I won a lot of competitions when I was little. I know the dirty dancing dance off by heart. I haven't entered a competition for around 8 years but I get people asking me to dance for them all the time. I do love to dance but my passion is singing and it's the area I excel in most
You sound very gifted Moonstone22! A good person to have at a party! Who is your Patrick Swayze for the lift?
gerrykelly25 Thank you, I come from a musical family and so it has been passed down to me through generations, I feel very lucky. When I was training it was usually my mum or my older brothers doing the lift but when I entered one of the competitions I had to put my faith in a 12 year old boy. I was worried he wouldn't be strong enough to hold me up but he really surprised me in rehearsals x
We had some dance lessons years ago. You begin by learning the waltz. The instructor told me my hips and bottom were made for Latin as I couldn’t keep them still
I then had some salsa lessons with a friend, which I really enjoyed but they’re not much use if your partner can’t do it. I sadly have the enthusiasm but not the skill.
I did ballet, jazz, street, character and ballroom when younger. I loved dancing but it started getting in the way of school work so had to give most of it up. Now my dancing consists of ceilidh dancing at weddings or occasionally with my husband in the living room.
Every year I say it’s inspired me to learn but so far I haven’t gone further than saying it
I do and I love it. I did Latin American and Ballroom in my twenties and taught myself Northern Soul a few years ago. I use it in the exercise classes I teach. Other than that, it's just in my kitchen.
I learnt to dance Cuban Salsa about 6 years ago now I think (let's just call it my midlife crisis!)... This also includes Bachata and Cha Cha Cha.
I've taught beginners and even took part in public performances.
However, due to covid I haven't been able to go back since.
I also did some ballroom as part of Strictly Ballroom for Cancer Research.
I do miss it and can't wait to get back to it again!
I think my feet and my brain have had a falling out, because they definitely aren't talking to each other!
