Struggling to Enjoy Black Friday after Today's Events

In the News

I was really looking forward to tonight spending the evening shopping the Black Friday deals but after the event in London today, I just cannot get into shopping. It's put everything into perspective so just wanted to share thanks to the hero bystanders and police who came to help x

Yes, it's very upsetting.

As you say, well done and a massive thank you to all those who rushed to help.

These were the options the citizens from the attack had:

A) Follow the law

B) Be armed with protection (which is illegal, pathetically)

Like the large portion of the country, they took option A just like any law abiding citizen. Even in countries where it's "very safe" it's still not entirely safe so you have to choose; Follow the law or stay alive.

Basically a Catch 22 situation. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Criminals have guns, but you don't. Does that make sense to you? Yeah, it's unfair.

RIP the two victims. Also, surprised they shot the attacker as they tend to avoid guns and by that many mock the British police.

The people that rushed to help and restrain him are very brave and heroes in my eyes, who knows how many others could have been hurt or killed. Thank god for brave citizens like them. My thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by it. There is some evil in the world that can never be explained.

I think it can be explained at least in this case, the individual was radicalised into violent behaviour for his religion. Christians used to kill a lot of innocent people too in the past whose beliefs weren't strong enough or they had the wrong beliefs.

I'm an atheist and not interested in killing or oppressing anyone but sadly many want to kill or oppress me around the world.

MrsCraig Lots of religions have deeply disturbing text regarding killing non-believers and the old testament is full of violence. The idea that somehow the religion is good but people take it too far has been shown to be completely inaccurate. The reality is modern civilised people take what they want from the religious texts and ignore the violence in it. If we set our values by religious texts we would still have slavery, sexual intercourse with young children, killing gay people, slaughtering and raping non-believers etc plus lots of other weird stuff that most of us can't get our head around but probably made more sense in the culture of the past. I think there is actually more violence in the old testament than the Quran but in the modern world luckily people don't take the christian texts too seriously but they did hundreds of years ago when it was used for extreme violence against many innocent people.

I was about 13 when I realised the science and history of religion was complete nonsense even if there are some valuable moral texts in it. I was taught both science and religion at the same time and so it was easy to realise one was pure fantasy with no basis in fact. Still many people around the world don't get the chance to see both sides even in many communities in the UK sadly.

The Quran states its ok to deceive non-believers, pretend to be their friends and then kill them. There are texts that show Mohammed's men promised safe passage and then killed those people. Nothing dissimilar to modern day terrorists really. The use of knives is the same too.

Its terribly sad. I'm sorry for the people caught up in it, must have been terrifying.

I find the fact the guy was a known terrorist & released early infuriating. We let far too many criminals out early in this country, our sentences to begin with are weak in alot of cases. Our judicial system needs a complete overhaul.
