What Do You Subscribe To?
Ask a Question
Subscription services are the norm these days but the only one I have is Spotify and that's only because it came with my mobile contract which was a good deal even without it. If I converted all my CDs and vinyl to MP3, I wouldn't need it!
There seems to be an assumption on here that everybody has Amazon Prime for instance with all the deals that rely on someone having it to be worthwhile. I just sign up to another trial if I really need something fast and that's not very often.
Then there is Netflix, Sky, Britbox and the rest. I honestly find enough to watch on Freeview but maybe I'm just easily pleased.
It all adds up so what do you subscribe to?
I have Spotify and use this very regularly so I think it's worth it, I download my music to play in the car etc so that's the main reason. I also have Netlfix but don't have any others, I've had Amazon Prime (partially for its tv shows) previously but don't have this anymore. I try to limit the subscriptions I have because like you said, they all add up!
We don't have any subscriptions and certainly wouldn't do amazon prime, although we do buy regularly from amazon but we are quite happy in our 'technoless' bubble. Our phones don't even have the internet! Seriously though we don't really want anything that you have to pay in perpetuity for, we prefer to pay outright (if we want it)
tumblespots I like technology but don't like paying for anything I cannot either physically consume or keep - one or the other!
Good old magazine subscriptions! I didn't even think of them but they're a lot cheaper than Netflix.
I subscribe to Apple Music which I don’t use as often as I should for the £10 a month it costs, although does come in handy when needed. I also subscribe to Netflix which I think is a great price for the amount of shows and films that are on there! And our tv/broadband is with Virgin which is fairly expensive like the rest of them lol.
I subscribe to Ancestry, well I'll re-join next month when I get a half price code for another year. OH gets a bi-monthly mag. Amazon prime is a free trial if and when required in a hurry. Netflix basic. My phone only does text or calls so any app would be wasted
We don't have a TV licence as we pay for Netflix and it works out less than £3 a month using a VPN for the Turkish site. I do have Amazon Prime student and find I tend to make good use of this with the amount of pricing errors and deals for Amazon.
Dennab no I only used it initially when I signed up (free trial) then changed it so it's the normal UK one now. Don't ask me the technical side of it I just followed some instructions a very long time ago on HUKD and it's worked ever since.
rararachel Oh really? That's good so you only need to sign up 'from Turkey' and then the account can be used at the lower cost anywhere. I've never had much interest in signing up to Netflix but tempted by that!
Dennab yes that's correct. HUKD has some food information on this, not sure it is still available but I'm sure someone on there will give you info.
Just Amazon Prime & Spotify at the moment both I use pretty much on a daily basis. Netflix I go back & forth with.
I subscribe to Netflix,I have a teenage daughter, she's easily amused with friends etc&i like all the drama series.I have prime, there's always something the kids/other half or i need,so it's great to have...plus I can cancel it easily.I've signed up to Disney+,as we really like The Mandalorion,Star Wars and it has a few extra programmes, probably will cancel it this month,as mainly signed up for The Mandalorion.
I have the free Spotify,but there's a free upgrade for three months,so I guess I will give that a go,x
Besides the TV ones I have Readly which is the magazine one. £7.99. For me that covers the spends for a TV magazine so all the other (many magazines are bonuses) plus I have a 2nd hand book one and have just started a baking one (Baked In).
I'd not heard of Readly actually. That's an interesting way to maintain interest in magazines because a few I know of have shut down recently, I'm assuming due to lack of interest in them.
Dennab That advert does make me laugh. I found so many things on that app that I might not have seen or bought before. There is a baking magazine that when I googled the price was worth £10! And as a knitter & crafter I've been able to go back through some old back catalogues for things to make that I would have missed because I didn't want to pay £5 a go for the print copy. You're probably right about magazines shutting down. I think many have gone online as the new normal
KirstyWhit29673 If it keeps journalists in the job, I'm all for it. A friend of mine works for specialist car mags. I'll have to ask what they think of Readily.
Dennab That's a good point. I've been reading on twitter about Buzzfeed journalists losing jobs. My cousin is a F1 journalist but freelance. So far she's been ok
KirstyWhit29673 F1 journalist, wow! Media is a competitive industry and a tough one in which to hold a job down but that is of course the case with so many others now, sadly.
I've got Amazon Prime and Sky with sports.
Also use Netflix, but with someone else's account.
I could do without Netflix, but I couldn't really do without Prime or Sky.
I subscribe to netflix! Me and my husband are fans of the movie site, we mostly watch netflix on our amazon fire tv stick gen 2. I am looking forward to subscribing to disney+ as i have seen some exciting films that are going to be launching soon. I can’t wait!
Jeffa Do you flick between them all? I have previously looked at Netflix and Prime with the annoying thing being that they all have their own exclusive content yet not enough stuff I can't just get on free services to justify subscribing. If I want to watch Better Call Saul, I need Netflix. If I want The Grand Tour, I need Prime. It must all add up as well. Is that three services you'll have then?
Dennab I would love for them all to be on the same page providing content easily accessible on the home page! That would be something they should work together on. However, i don’t subscribe to Amazon Prime Video, only Netflix. The only reason i don’t like Prime Video is that not everything is available to watch on Prime. For instance, game of thrones is not on Prime Video but you have to buy the seasons or episodes separately.
We have Netflix but have got to the point we feel we have literally watched everything although the good thing is they do release new stuff each week
Netflix and Kindle unlimited. I do like police procedures/mystery series and kindle unlimited has lots of very good ones.
