Should We All Be Taking Vitamin D?

Other

I know we can go in the garden, if we have one, but lack of sunshine during lockdown could lead to vitamin D deficiency. It was something I didn't think ahead to buy, what about you?

What do you think of this?

I pop a Multivitamin every morning.

I will be spending plenty of time in the garden though to help matters.

Yes, I am lucky to have a garden and am trying to motivate myself to go and mow the grass, it is almost knee high! I had left it as I was meant to be having the garden paved this month but that will now be on hold.

Yes, I think there will be noticeable results from the isolation. Even under normal circumstances, we don't get enough sunshine. Make the most of the next few days in the garden.

(this was from a 2018 report so not sure where the 'tank top' came from πŸ˜‚ but scary, nevertheless)

e.g. You need to expose a sufficient amount of skin to sunlight to maintain healthy vitamin D blood levels. Wearing a tank top and shorts for 10–30 minutes three times per week is sufficient for lighter-skinned people, while those with darker skin may need longer.

Mushrooms-like our skin-make D when exposed to sunlight. That's why wild mushrooms are high in the vitamin. ... (UV-exposed mushrooms have some mention of vitamin D on the label.) You can fortify your own fungi by sunning mushrooms on a windowsill (chop them for maximum surface exposure

I thought people could still go out on their own, cycle rides, walks etc for exercise. I'll admit to not being the most informed person as don't have a tv license so don't see the normal channels or news but I've seen a few videos on youtube and thought you could go out on your own for a bit of exercise as long as you keep away from people, safe distancing.

I have no excuse really as I have a large garden that needs a lot of TLC! My legs are already aching after a day spent in the garden yesterday. I actually caught the sun on my face - in March! I planted a few herbs and vegetables which we might be glad of in the coming months.

I take vitamin D daily as prescribed by my doctor but I’m pleased the sun is shining at last to have some natural D.

I'm sitting on my small patio in the sun right now and am very glad i have it. Got a bit of sunblock on though, as i always wear a bit of sunblock in the sun.

I have probably done 2 hours gardening today stopping for a drink and to admire my handiwork every 30 minutes or so. Double whammy, exercise and vitamin D because to be sure, I cannot be motivated to do any other form of exercise! I guess when I get to clean the windows, clean out kitchen cupboards etc it may count as exercise.

Lynibis same! Did some cleaning and gardening, that's more exercise that I'd get in a week as i work at a desk.. I am on holiday though, next week back to the desk but at home.

Be careful with vitamin supplements. You can have too much as well as not enough.
