Talk Talk Broadband
Ask a Question
Looking at changing over to Talk Talk fibre broadband. Just wondering if anyone has any experience of Talk Talk and whether they would recommend them or not.
All replies appreciated. Thanks
They are fine. Bit crap and slow on CS front when i signed up. But for price and quality of line and router i cant complain.
Had them about 10 years ago as they were the cheapest. Never had any issues. Internet could be slow at times but that's true of every supplier
i have had talk talk 4 year and never had a issue and im always late paying yet they let u be overdue bill buy 8 days
They were very slow when i had them and awful customer service. Mind you that could be because I live out in the sticks !
The customer service is worse than AWFUL - they either have no idea what is going on or are COMPLETE LIARS. It's nothing to do with you living out in the sticks. I don't. I was getting less than a quarter of the speed I should have been getting until I paid EXTRA for faster fibre.
davidstockport That is the same problem I had with them. I did end my contract early without charges but my god it wasn’t easy.
I wish I'd never heard of TalkTalk (I was actually transferred to them by AOL)- I've had an ongoing issue with them since last July - they started charging me for something I had clearly been promised as free when I was MIS-SOLD the contract.
They've now virtually accepted that I was mis-sold the contract but will still not allow me to leave and go elsewhere. I've been told by one of their mouthpieces - it will cost me more than it's worth to take it to court.
They have harassed me by telephone after I have clearly told them that all communications must be in writing. One of their tricks is to phone then put the phone down - then seconds later ring my mobile number SAME AGAIN today I also got text message (all three in same minute) saying they had been unable to contact me and asking me to phone them. I tried to reply to the text saying "Put all communications in writing. Your supposed attempts to contact me by phone are farcical". The reply was rejected.
The phone number they call me from to harass me (it's over eight times now) is 0800 955 5511 which anyone can check for themselves can not be genuine. It's a free phone number so ring it and you will find that by one of the most amazing miracles since three wise men came from the east they have JUST tried to phone YOU.
After you've done that and found I'm not lying ask yourself: Do you want to have anything to do with a company whose founder admittedly paid for business advice from a convicted fraudster - and is also the most complained about ISP?
Incidentally this is the third time they've tried to rip me off. What they don't seem to realise is that I should be able to claim every penny they have taken from my bank account since they refused to let me leave the mis-sold contract (unless I paid a £550 early termination fee).
Wish I never heared of talk talk they are bad. They started off ok. But they kept putting the price up. When I need a new box they want to charge me £200 pound which I did not pay. And because I left they fine me £350 pound. But after lot of phoning and letter writing they say they would only charge me £l00 pound. So just played it. Just to get them away. Then I got a letter to say that I still owed £250 pound and if I was not payed they were taking me to court. But after 6 mouth and a lot more writing and phone I won my case. It was about 18mouth that I had to fight them. They are bad.
That is why I wouldn't just walk away from the mis-sold contract. They will not allow me to leave without a massive early termination fee - I don't want the hassle of debt collection agencies etc. So have "thrown the ball into their court".
Incidentally there are THOUSANDS of customers with the same complaint who have been refused permission to leave their contracts - some have accepted settlements that do not adequately compensate them, I want my legal entitlement which is to be allowed to leave the mis-sold contract - applying to courts for rescission of contract - is time consuming and expensive - which they know. So most of those "ripped off" give in too easily.
I'd advise anyone who has any problem with them to INSIST that all communications are in writing.
Thank you for all your comments, some good, other confirm what I have heard and read elsewhere.
Still undecided what to do, hoping Sky will come back to me with a better deal before services actually terminate as I've given them a months notice, a Few weeks yet.
Do NOT do it!! I was with them for 2 years.. The first few months were fine, great connection etc.. then my internet started cutting out randomly, multiple times a day (using lan cable, not wifi) sometimes the speed went as low as 300kb for days at a time! I wouldn't mind so much but I was paying for 16mb!!
I was constantly on the phone to them, they just kept fobbing me off saying they were looking into it etc.. in the end i had to wait 5 days for them to send an engineer out, apparently he couldn't find any fault with the set up, box, etc so he just left it at that..
after multiple price increases and terrible service (also the hacking of everyone's details) I changed to sky (been with sky for 3 years now)
A few months after leaving them I had a letter saying I owed them £120 for an engineer that apparently came to my house, done some work and changed my router.. I was in Norway the date they claimed the engineer came lol!
After I called them offering proof, they then tried to claim it was a different day.. guess what?? I was still in Norway haha!
I was then getting harassed by phone, multiple times a day, claiming I still owed the outstanding balance.. I eventually had enough and threatened them with trading standards! within an hour, someone called me back saying the debt had been cleared!
I have been with sky ever since and the only problem I have had is.. They forgot to turn my broadband back on after a fibre upgrade lol.
Talk talk are the worst company I have ever dealt with..
I'm glad someone else has mentioned the harassment by phone - it supports my first accusation.
The only people who have anything good to say about TalkTalk are those who've never had any problem or had to deal with their customer services. They soon change their minds when anything goes wrong - one other thing that happened to me was I wasn't able to make outgoing calls unless I paid an extortionate charge for a few local calls, I was at the time on an "anytime call package" that like many other customers I'd been given for one year to compensate for them not taking adequate care of our details TWICE - it's happened since too.
davidstockport the harassment was the worst part about it! Once a day is enough, but this was like 4, 5 times a day some times lol..
To be honest though, I never once had a problem with the phone line. I had a deal where I could talk all day (just had to put the phone down every 59 mins before it charged me lol)
The internet speed, lies and harassment on the other hand though.. Haha!!
LittleLisaMarie The harassment by phone is horrendous this is how I replied by email to the latest incidents yesterday:
Today Saturday 2nd March 2019 at 1.30pm I received a phone call on my landline from 08009555511 - I answered within 5 seconds there was just a dial tone - seconds later my mobile rang also no one there to speak to me - seconds later I received a text message which read "Sorry you have had to report a problem. We have tried to contact you because we need to speak you (sic) to resolve your complaint, Please call us on 0345 1720 088 so we can get the issue fixed as soon as possible"
I tried to reply to SMS with this "Put all communications in writing. Your supposed attempts to contact me by phone are farcical" The short message reply was rejected - and I know from late August 2018 when the same number was repeatedly used to harass me in the same way that the 0800955551 number is just a number that takes the caller to a "Sorry we missed you message". (Not from the department that called - seconds before)
I made it abundantly clear, last year, that I do not wish to communicate by telephone. When I am dealing with companies such as yours I want EVERYTHING in writing either by email - or to my home address.
If I haven't made that clear enough - except in emergencies - I will regard any attempt to contact me by telephone as harassment. END OF EMAIL
I think that makes things clear enough - TalkTalk are going to love my YouTube video (when I get round to making it). I've even written a song entitled "Oh Lord Grant Me Patience... But Hurry!"
davidstockport it's wrong the way they go about things.. I feel bad for any elderly that's dealt with them (or have yet to deal with them for that matter) because they are so persistent!!
It got to the point where I would just answer the phone and sit in silence lol.
You will have to link the YouTube video on here for us LOL
LittleLisaMarie They even lie in adverts. I'm in the process of reporting this to the advertising standards authority:
Do I get a TalkTalk landline?
You do indeed. Every TalkTalk broadband package comes with a landline included in the price. And it throws in free call privacy features as well, including caller display, anonymous caller reject and last caller barring. FROM https://www.techradar.com/uk/broadband/talktalk-broadband-deals (it's a paid for advert)
That implies (actually states) the "anonymous caller reject" is FREE - they started charging for it last year (£2 a month). I know because I cancelled it - this thieving, lying company are not getting a penny extra out of me.
davidstockport nice to know it hasn't changed in the 3 and a half years since I left!
I'm kinda lucky I got out when I did.. Due to the data breach I was able to cancel mid contract without penalty. Well, come to think of it, they still tried charging me for an imaginary story of an engineer coming out to my property lol
LittleLisaMarie 101,000 left because of the data breach - I just wish I'd made it 101,001. But I accepted their offer of "free anytime calls" for a year as compensation*. then they TRIED to start charging me for the calls before the year had elapsed, I managed to get in touch with Dido Harding (the then CEO) she left a few months later - hope I didn't upset her
*At first they wouldn't let me accept their offer of "free anytime calls" because I already paid for it, I saw a loophole and said I was canceling my payment and would phone them back the next day to accept their offer. They never took the trouble to thank me for going to their community boards and telling everyone else how to get it. Although many other members thanked me.
davidstockport don't get me wrong, the free calls offer was tempting but at that stage I'd had enough.. as soon as I got the letter to say I was one of the 150.000 or so people that had my details stolen (about 2 weeks after it happened) I was straight on the phone to cancel my contract.. they tried persuading me to stay with the offer of 6 months free line rental lol.. No thank you!
Next day, I signed straight up to sky and been with them ever since.
Don’t go with them they are absolutely terrible. I’m in a contract with them for 18 months and I really can’t wait to get out of contract. The customer service is awful. The Internet is so slow, I had to buy a new Router. Because there’s is terrible. I’ve even had to buy a Wi-Fi extender for the top of the stairs because the Internet wouldn’t reach that far. They done work outside my house and left me for three days without the Internet. Then they even charge me for The guy to come out and fix my Internet. Even though the Internet wasn’t working because of them.
New rules regarding faulty internet connection compensation scheme starting very soon. Think its 8 quid a day its off and some other rules
BW07 The problem with compensation schemes is that it will probably be almost impossible to get compenstion. TalkTalk should IMO have been compelled to let those adversely affected by changes to mobile phone charges to leave their contracts. But they did it in an underhand way most were confused when they were notified that because a DISCOUNT was being introduced the cost would go UP. I personally thought they'd sent me the notification of the discount that increased the price accidentally.
What they'd actually done was increase the price of the supposed FREE essential sim to £5 then knocked £2 off. I had specifically been told, after I'd asked, that my FREE essential sim would NOT be affected if I took out a new 24 month contract. I am now paying over £60 a year more than a new customer would pay - for the exact same thing. (So are probably thousands of others).
