Teaching Assistant Courses

Ask a Question

I am planning to start a new career as a teacher. What courses should I do to work as a teacher? Should I be a teaching assistant first before gaining experience to start as a teacher? Which course to learn?

I thought to use this lockdown period to prepare for the courses required. But no colleges are open to guide me. Please reply.

You do not need to be a teaching assistant first, being a teaching assistant is different to being a teacher. It would give you classroom experience but wouldn't necessarily help with other aspects of teaching. You need to have a teaching qualification, such as a PGDE and you need to make sure that you have the relevant qualifications to do the degree. It also depends where you live as to what qualifications you might need, what experience you will need. Have a look on the open university website, it should be able to give you the information you are after.

You would have to go to uni and PGDE first whilst doing that you will be on placement either paid or voluntary, then once done hopefully youll get a teaching job.
