Technology or a Book at Bedtime?

Ask a Question

I always used to read when I went to bed. Now quite often I will find myself playing around on my phone instead, despite the knowledge that it doesn't help sleep. Who still reads a book before sleeping? What type of genre? I love murder/thrillers, again doesn't aid a good night's sleep 😂

I check my phone before bed, and what's worse is I watch programmes on the laptop to help me nod off. I really should get into reading again. Im more if a chick lit fan

It's just so easy to fall into the phone/laptop, etc habit isn't it. I must admit I do like Jane Green or Lisa Jewel if I'm in the mood for chick lit

I put kindle on my tablet and I get the worst of both worlds. Not only do I stay up late reading I also pump bright light straight in to my tired eyes. Technology and a book 🙂

I read every evening and fall asleep on my kindle. Sometimes the kindle falls off the bed and the noise wakes me up 🙄😂

Snap, can you recommend any good authors. I enjoy Mo Hayder (very dark), Mark Billingham, James Patterson but I'm always on the lookout for new books to read ☺️

Ideally a book, but realistically technology! Which doesn't help with sleep unfortunately, but must entertainment these days is accessed through tech.

Usually technology with the TV in the background.

I saw on the news yesterday that many kids now are swiping physical books like tablets when they enter primary school. As they've had no previous exposure to real books. I found this article from last year which covers the same issue - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/04/02/children-swiping-books-attempt-turn-pages-raised-tablets-phones/

Definitely read a book at bedtime and I mean a real old fashioned type of book with pages and everything 😁. I tried reading a kindle but nothing beats a proper book.

Absolutely a book. Books are not used enough now being picked second over the technology devices. But they are so important to engage children in reading. I think it's a great opportunity to remind yourself and the children of the importance.

I used to read a lot, and som etimes the books were so good, I’d actually forgo sleeping just to finish the book off. But I know for a fact my eye sight gets worse the more I read, so I had to do less of it. Nowadays, I’m using tech more, and thankfully (and strangely) it’s never affected my eyesight
