Thermal Cameras to Screen for Coronavirus

In the News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-52356177

it’s been reported that Amazon has installed thermal cameras in its warehouses in the UK and around the world to screen workers for coronavirus symptoms

I know at least one grocery shop that’s started to take the temperature of staff and customers before they enter the premises Is this something the other shops will start to do? Would it be a good idea?

Well, if they are using the traditional thermometers I hope they are cleaned thoroughly in between people! 🐞

It’s usually the thermal ones, like the ones they have in airports, so they can zap the temperature from a distance.

hspexy I haven't come across those, but then I don't get out as much as I used to! 😂 😂 🐞

I suppose anything that may help is good but there are hundreds of reasons for an elevated temperature, so the person who shows they have one could be perfectly well.

I would have thought by now they could have some sort of fine mist that can be sprayed from the ceilings of hospitals and public buildings to kill off the virus if something as simple as soap and water can do it.

That’s what I thought, especially if they keep saying that sanitisers with ethanol kills virus and bacteria. But I guess it’ll only deal with it on the surfaces, and not if already penetrated into the system. Either way, having it is better than not

If the tech is available, then why not? They have been using them in Asia for over a decade, ever since SARS, but I have yet to see them being used over here

I'm still concerned at how effective these head thermometers are but the body scanning makes a lot of sense. I never had any detectable heat coming from my head but I had two full days of having a red-hot back. (made me laugh too when I wrote it) It was so bad that I had to keep getting up to allow the leather to cool down on the sofa. When this situation improves, it would be really useful to find out the different side effects/symptoms because the basic ones that were listed initially were not helpful.
