Do You Think Freebies Should Be worth More Points??

Other

So I love this site and fact you can earn points for uploading various deals and freebies etc.

But I have noticed that since this site has grown in popularity that finding a freebie to upload is becoming much more difficult.

Sometimes I spend hours and hours of my time looking for a good freebie to upload and sometimes I can spend hours and find nothing.

I know that we earn points for these finds but at just 10 points per freebie it doesn’t seem very much for my time invested in comparison especially to uploading a deal worth 100 hundred points and which can be found in minutes! This is a huge comparison in time invested to points earned and I was wondering if anyone else felt the same?

Does anyone else agree and think that with the sites new found popularity that the points system should be looked at again and freebies be worth more points?

would love to hear your thoughts and opinions....

I agree deals are easier to find than freebies. I dont think ive ever posted any freebies as its not something i actively look for and i wouldnt bother looking for 10 points.

JennyHopkins15 It's a contentious topic. πŸ˜‚ I honestly think that if a deal is posted properly - MUST include postage, sizes or availability then it takes some time. On the other side of the argument - Freebies are really hard to find and are becoming increasingly rare. BUT...... if you're lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time they take no time at all to post. Don't know if you caught this discussion recently but it's worth a read. I've also changed my mind about the liking points-system - I've always used them on deals that were good but have become aware that most people award them 'five-in-a-row' without any consideration. https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/chat/need-help-ld-next

Hi, I find it the longest part of uploading anything is not the actual time spent uploading it, as once you have all correct information, re prices, postage etc as you mentioned together, then it’s fairly easy to upload deal etc. It’s more the amount of time that it takes to find freebies in comparison to deals.

If it is a weak quality freebie or one that’s been shared by members multiple times then I think 10 points is fair. Maybe even to high an amount if it’s a multiple share as no work goes into looking for these. But I think if it is a genuine freebie that you have spent time finding or researching then possibly a higher amount of points should be awarded.

i agree with you on points for likes. I try to only like genuine deals and freebies and tend to mainly vote in fresh new freebies that haven’t been shared before. As feel that these deserve the likes.

Why would LD offer more points for freebies when they wouldn't gain from it?

The more deals that are posted, the more income LD will receive from affiliation links when users buy things.

By offering the higher point range, more deals are going to get posted.

Don't forget, this is a business and they need the income to keep going to provide this platform.

I have no issue in the way the site is run/funded etc, but this is my guess on why little points are offered for freebies, and perhaps others too πŸ™‚

I agree, yet you get 5 points for a comment and you then get a whole 20 points for a long comment (first five of course) which makes people write really long sentences like I am doing now to make sure that they obtain enough detail and content in the text so that they can get the points that I have just done with this really silly comment πŸ™‚

jmsonl πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ the amount of people I've seen doing exactly this lol. You only need to write like 2 sentences to get maximum points. πŸ˜‹

It is funny seeing people write essays thanking the poster for a freebie/deal though haha.

jmsonl Haha, yes its surprising the amount of replies one will get for something that doesn't require a long response, unless it is something they have had a bad experience with. I guess some people like to abuse the point system and get as many as they can...especially with the chat section, some topics are just like, pointless! But thanks for your reply to this, as it has enabled me to write a long response to get the points πŸ˜ƒ lol

Metrovski I totally agree with all the above comments on points for long or short comments but can see both sides (curse of being a Libran). I assume we all like earning points for Amazon vouchers so I can't understand those who put a short comment like: Nice one, cheers, thanks, great share etc which gets them only 5 points and not only that it uses up their ration of only 5 comments per day. I can therefore understand why some folk lengthen their comments to get maximum points. However, they are often laughable and if they want to earn max points come on over to chat and make a contribution.

I know it sounds very ungrateful of me but I hate trawling through notifications just to find most are one word thanks comments. It is one area where I don't feel thanks are necessary, would much sooner read their opinion of the comp/deal or anything wrong/right with it.

And having said all this I must add I also have a gripe with some of the tripe posted as topics which is so blatantly posted for points. The worst thing is they know it doesn't matter if they get no responses as they have still got their 20 points! Maybe they should be taken away if there is no response after 24 hours!?

Well, I think I have earned my 20 points!

Metrovski I've sussed out the most obvious point gatherers in the chat section now. πŸ˜‚

There's about 5 people that I don't even acknowledge anymore.

There was one person that was posting the exact same topic, exactly a month after she originally posted it! if that's not obvious enough, I don't know what is. πŸ˜‚

Then there's the ones that don't even answer back to anyone at all, you call them out on it and they then finally reply back a week later saying "I was to busy to respond".. well, you weren't too busy to post your daily deals, freebies, vouchers and new chat topics! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Phew πŸ˜… I think I've just earned my 20 points with this comment too! πŸ˜‰

LittleLisaMarie you get 20 points for posting a topic, yes. My own personal opinion, which I do not expect others to agree with, is that you can earn 40 points per day (280 per week) for posting inane pointless (excuse the pun) topics, regardless of whether anyone replies. I think the quality of chat would improve if you only got those points once 3 replies have been posted. Maybe folk would think twice before wasting their two chances.

Lynibis I thought they would have needed like 2 or 3 comments on it to be considered "a great chat topic" at least.. πŸ˜‘

No wonder why people post some complete drivel.

LittleLisaMarie agree totally. But there are some topics too silly for words that some people do respond to and I guess that's their privilege. But as I said above those with thick skins don't care about getting responses once they have their points.

I don't understand why they don't continue the conversation though as they could earn even more points by answering those who are good enough to respond.

Like you I avoid the regular offenders.

Lynibis no, neither can I..

The amount of time they take writing an essay 'thanking someone for posting a great deal or freebie' they could just respond to the people that have actually took their time to reply to their chat posts!

The things I dislike the most are ignorance and lack of manners.

Freebies are harder to find so you should get more points. I think it will also result in more freebies being shared.

If the freebie is from a UK based company and offers free postage then i would agree with it being worth more points..

(Say, 20 points or so)

most of the so called freebies posted on here either..

* have extortionate p&p prices (to sneakily cover the cost of the product as well as the postage)

* are from the USA (which 9 times out of 10, no-one ever receives)

* or are basically just fake giveaways that are only data collecting..

Then no, those kind of 'freebies' I feel don't deserve extra points (I'd award less points for them if I'm honest πŸ˜‚)

I also realise this comment will rub some the wrong way but there are so many free fabric samples posted here - they take no time at all to source compared to a genuine 'what a treat!' kind of freebie. Should they be banned or limited per poster? (sometimes it fun to play devil's advocate......) Image

angemski I will be honest I don’t really know myself. But saw it whilst trawling for freebies and thought that although postage is slightly high you get a lot of items included in the sample kit. So not to bad. Glad you enjoyed it. Hope others did too. And thank you again

I don't understand why you would spend hours and hours of your time looking for a good freebie. Why? Everyone posts differently. I personally don't use this site for deals at all, only comps so I would love to get 100 points for posting a comp and 10 for a deal. Most of the deals are just posted from Amazon. I never 'like' an Amazon deal nor do I post any but I don't expect anyone to agree. Each to their own but I think everyone would have their own ideas about points and how many should be given for different posts. Personally I think chat would be a lot better without points for posting a topic, just for the subsequent chat.

I will be honest I think I have a bit of an addiction to freebie hunting. I don’t sleep a lot so it occupies my time plus Its probably really sad of me but I get a little bit of a buzz when I find a great freebie that can share with others. Everyone loves a freebie and always gives you that christmassy feeling of joy when postman delivers something good.

JennyHopkins15 ah well that is different. If you do it for the pleasure factor then happy hunting. We all do things we love which others may consider a waste of time but if it brings you pleasure.......why not? Just don't expect to get points rich lol.

It would be better if Freebies (and Competitions) got at least the same points as longer comments. It seems a little strange that a commenter can get twice as many points as the person who posts the Freebie or Competition.

It should be more than 10 points, but it is a deal website so it can not be equal with the deal points.

anymore I look for deals or discounts to share only....
