Do You Think Luxury Christmas Crackers Are worth the £ & Would Recommend Any?
Ask a Question
It's traditionally to have Christmas crackers, but I hate the plastic tat instide of them, last year I bought alcohol ones, but missed the bang. I've seen a lot of great deals for crackers, although don't believe the RRP. Have you bought any you would recommend ?
I've already bought a box of 'pretty crackers' to strip and fill with fragrances and I've also bought a cracker kit to fill with bulkier stuff like miniatures. It's something I enjoy doing and it's so much better than the usual plastic tat that comes as standard. I wouldn't recommend any of the higher priced options as they can all be done better.......unless you're a millionaire. (the cracker kits come with a bang-strip)
beccatavender The kits are made of card, making them much safer for heavier gifts, and they slot together on the closure, so no sticking. (easy)
gerrykelly25 The barrel length of the kit cracker is approx 12cms so that allows for lots of options. Just remember to stock up on bubble wrap.
Years back got some with pudding charms, silver plated in they were lovely, a couple of years ago Bodycare had Baylis and Harding ones with body lotion and shower gel, very inexpensive
Years ago used to make crackers at home with parents boxes wpuld get delivered and we all had a job one unpacking one sticking snapper on one rolling one tieing and one filling.
I would prefer to buy eco-friendly crackers if I was going to buy them, they're so wasteful otherwise
A few years ago I bought some rather nice Christmas crackers from Waitrose. To this day I still use the nail clippers and bottle opener that were inside them. So worth looking on the box to see the contents.
Christmas lunch isnt Christmas lunch without crackers and the rubbish gifts you get in them! So long as they look pretty, have a BANG, a paper hat and a joke I'm happy!
I fancied having a go at making some and putting relevant gifts and jokes in ... but guess what ... Christmas always surprises me with its date so I never get round to it lol.
For luxury crackers, I think it's better to buy attractive Christmas Crackers and re-fill them yourself. The pre-stuffed ones usually have nicer designs than the fill-your-own ones.
I do this and write a tiny initial just inside the end to make sure they go to the right recipient.
Just undo the bow at one end and open the cracker gently to re-fill it.
I actually find it easier to discard the bows from both ends and re-tie them with my own ribbon. That's because the ribbon on shop bought crackers are cut very short making them fiddly to re-tie.
Wind-up toys like this are a bit of fun for kids and adults. LEGO mini figures are also good cracker (and advent calendar) fillers for kids

I always make my own - I sewed some covers and attached Velcro in the middle so they pull apart like crackers do and reuse them every year. I fill them with whatever fits, basically! I’ve put small toys in them for kids before, then travel size shower gels or alcohol for the adults.
