My gut reaction to that question would be a resounding No!
However after reading this headline"Dad killed 'paedophile friend after finding video of him raping 8-year-old daughter' and reading the article that she wasnt the only victim.
There is a campaign on social media in Russia, that he shouldn't face a murder charge after reading the article, I totally understand this stance.
Very hard to see that he wasn't doing the world a favour by killing the paedophile.
I do think it's a slippery slope though, a line has to be drawn somewhere.
Part of me thinks that you shouldn't play judge and jury and this can lead to anarchy. But saying that I can understand his reaction.

There was a thread on here the other day (Since deleted) that talked about what punishment dog thieves should get.
I'd kill anyone who stole my dogs, but I also know that that's not a rational and proportionate response.
I think that's why we have social norms and a police service to enforce them. I think in certain circumstances everyone has that killer instinct even if it's self defence.

He was protecting his daughter and wanted to make sure that the 'friend' wouldn't be able to hurt her again. And with the alomst non existent justice system we have in this country I would say it was very much justified.
The almost non existent justice system you say we have in this country should not affect the way things are done in Russia.
I can understand the father's reaction but it would be mayhem if everyone took the law into their own hands in any country.
Hopefully even if found guilty the mitigating circumstances will be sufficient to let him walk free. I don't know how the Russian justice system works, but I think that's what would probably happen here.
Only in self defence. Having said that if I was on this guy's jury at his trial I would acquit him.
My head says that we should always leave it to the police - as mistakes do happen and innocent people do get targeted by mistake especially when emotions are running so high in crimes that target children.
If that was my child though I am not sure sure the head would win...
You're quite correct mistakes do happen, I recall some years ago a female children's doctor was targeted by vigilantes. Some idiots didn't know the difference between a paedophile and a paedeatrician.

davidstockport That was exactly the case I was thinking of - but it was so absurd I wasnt convinced I was remembering right. I think The Sun was leading a campaign to 'out' offenders living in the community under supervision.
didbygraham It was actually the News of the World (so called newspaper) who were running a name and shame campaign. Sadly the News of the World is no longer with us, gone but not forgotten and sadly missed by the morons who thought that the truth should never get in the way of a good story.
The Sun might have had something to do with it - their readers are usually people who think that SUN is NEWS spelt backwards.
Police can see the evidence of the crimes he committed because he filmed himself doing those things. I hope the court are lenient towards the father.
In those circumstances I think 99% of people would kill him or give it a good he should get the Russia version of a knighthood
After reading the story and if all facts are correct then the man should not go to jail. He may need some kind of help but locking him up is not the answer.
I think taking a life is only justifiable if it is self defence. There are other situations, such as this, where the fathers actions are understandable, but not justifiable. That is what the court system is for.
