Your Thoughts on Chewing Gum

Other

Personally I hate to see people chewing gum. They don’t seem to be able to chew gum with their mouth closed. The noise drives me mad as well. Now I know we have a litter problem in this country will always say yeah but what about cigarette ends - yeah I agree with you - but they can be swept up easily. I’ve seen the struggle to remove chewing gum from the pavement. High pressure water jets etc - then you are left with a kind of spotty looking pavement.

I despise any form of littering but I think chewing gum gets to me so much as the sound and the people seem to have to have their mouths open.

Sorry - rant over - but what do you think ?

With you on that. It's hideous stuff and yes type of people with mouth open and slapping their lips together are awful. I get it if used as breath freshener if done discreetly but that's all. People that spit on pavements are also quite disgusting.

JLouM I’m so glad its not just me ! I usually have tic tacs or polos in my handbag. I’ve worked a couple of jobs where I was face to face with the public and if you got caught chewing gum it was instant dismissal. It also sounds awful if you are talking to someone on the phone who is chewing gum too.

I'm not a fan of it either especially when people chew and talk at the same time. I even noticed it recently where someone was doing it on a TV show and it was very obvious.

I’m not a fan but when at certain times of the year, I need airwaves to help alleviate my sinuses, so I chew for my health. Otherwise, I can do without it

Where I work people or guests throw It on the carpet Instead of putting It In the bin. Try and get that up. I work In a Holiday Park that Is open 365 days of the year. You can get some substance that freezes It but have not seen It for ages at Work. Horrible stuff the gum Is anyways.

I can not say anything good about the stuff. Like you say about the littering of it. It costs the council more to clean it up, it gets stuck to your shoes and its bad for your indigestion system

I hate it. We should do what Singapore has done and ban it. It's disgusting. All you hear is people with gobs open wide chewing loudly I don't want or need to hear it. Added it's spat or put everywhere

I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand I find it disrespectful, distracting and a little annoying when trying to have a serious conversation with someone who is chewing gum . It's an environmental nightmare when people just drop it all over the pavement as well. It does aid thinking and cognition and helps stave appetite .It may also aid digestive juices so if used in this way I think it can be beneficial. A bit like talking with a mouthful of dinner otherwise. We just need manners when using the stuff is all.

Agree - it's chewing (anything) with an open mouth that gets me. Gross. Poor manners 😬

I always used to have gum but agree with you when it's thrown on the floor. I used to wrap it up in tissue and in the bin

I do chew gum as it helps me to keep alert, do get what you mean about the open mouth chewing. It does annoy me when people litter with gum as it’s very hard to clean up, some countries such as Singapore have banned chewing gum.

On top of all that - regular chewing gum is single use plastic. Ban that

I don't have the strength of feeling that you do about this as the only inconvenience I have experienced with this substance is when it is put on a bus or train seat deliberately and I sit on it without noticing first.

I dislike it when people chew or eat with their mouth open regardless of what is being consumed.

Ban. Damn stuff stuck on pavements everywhere. Costs fortune to remove. Looks gross. Same as cigarette butts. Filthy habit.

Chewing gum should not be banned.

Chewing gum should be disposed of correctly in the bin.

I have chewing gum every day and I always keep empty crisp or biscuit packets and always put in there before throwing in bin.

I agree with every word but have to say it's indicative of the human condition. There are always those who will find a way to spoil the life and surroundings of others. Never can we rely on them to be respectful of their fellow man so we have to bring about laws, rules and regulations to keep the peeps under control. This applies to bad driving, thoughtless parking, general littering (especially condoms and dirty nappies), offensive language, aggression, bad neighbours, loud music, oh the list is endless. I gave up on the human race decades ago😒
