How to Get Three Mobile's Wuntu App Even if You're Not with Three

Deals

I've just unlocked my Apple iPhone with O2 Mobile so that I can use it with the Three Mobile Wuntu Rewards app.

I thought I'd share here how you go about unlocking your phone, ordering a free Three Mobile sim card, installing Wuntu, and changing back to your old sim card - all for free.

How to unlock your phone (example: O2)

If you have a monthly phone contract, you should be able to unlock the device for free.

In this post, I use the example of O2 mobile, but all networks are very similar. Here's the page for Vodafone.

Go to https://mymobile.o2.co.uk/unlockdevice and login. Your phone should come up with some details to check.

Press 'unlock device'.

About 30 minutes later (although the service says it can be up to 24 hours), you then receive a text confirming it has been done, or with the next steps.

In the case of Apple iPhone, the text read,

"O2: Nearly there. Finish off unlocking your iPhone by putting in a non-O2 sim, connect to iTunes then you're away."

How to set up Three Mobile Wuntu Rewards App

  1. First, you have to order a free Three sim card.
  2. Take out your old sim card
  3. Insert your Three mobile sim card
  4. Your phone will then 'activate' the sim card and you may be asked to login to your Apple id if an iPhone.
  5. Login to WiFi (so you're not paying for mobile data to install it) and then download the free Wuntu rewards app.
  6. Open the app and register (it will ask you to now turn off WiFi so that it can check you have a Three Mobile sim card installed).
  7. That's it!

You can now take out the Three Mobile sim card and go back to your original sim card. Wuntu will still work, even without a Three Mobile sim card.

Of course, you can also stick to the Three Mobile sim.

Wuntu has loads of freebies and deals, and is getting better and better, so I'm really looking forward to enjoying it more and more.

Tom I take it you don't have to top up the 3 sim to activate it? I have a 3 sim which I sent away for to do exactly this but it was asking me to top up to activate it😢 does this fix this issue? I'm with GiffGaff pay as you go, Android btw, would this matter?

I managed to activate Wuntu without doing a top up.

However, a couple of members have said this shouldn’t be possible — yet those who have tried seem to have had success.

Nikki2017 Hi. I’d suggest you stick with Giffgaff, or move over to Three permanently- but please don’t cheat about it, as the paying Three customers are not getting their rights because of the likes of yourself. It’s very unfair & unethical.

Hi, I might be called a party-pooper for this, but am I the only one who thinks this is very unethical? Eg getting an 02 sim for Priority Moments and a Three sim for Wuntu, but being on an entirely different network in reality? It just feels very wrong to me. Three customers pay their monthly contracts, & they deserve that extra bonus of a treat that comes in the app weekly, they have every right too. The past few weeks, when I have gone to get my freebies (Costa or Domino’s)- the app tells me they’re all gone. Yes, they’re popular, but it could also be because people have wrongly claimed. The pizza’s that are reserved for us, are instead being taken by someone who’s on EE or Vodafone or some other network, who’s done the cheating method of getting the app intended for us Three customers. No one else has disagreed in this thread, so perhaps I’m the only one who is thinking like this, but I just feel like it’s majorily wrong. I’m a Three customer but I won’t get an 02 sim for Priority Moments because I know it’s not meant for me...

I think companies will stop giving freebies if people take advantage.

Hey DaisyWinter, the cost of unlocking your phone depends on your network. Some networks will do it for free, others charge. If you have a Google you should be able to find more information. This article may help.

In regards to whether or not you can do it whilst on a PAYG, I'm unsure but I can't see why it's a problem. You can always go into your phone operator's shop and ask - this is completely legal.

As a final resort, phone accessory kiosks can often do it for you - for about £20. The people who sells phone cases etc.
