Are You Thrifty?

Ask a Question

Does anyone on here consider themselves thrifty in anyway?

What do you do to save money?

Do you recycle a lot of you unwanted items and/or use them for something else?

My cousin has a compost bin and put a lot of food into that and also tears food into smaller pieces and feeds them to local birds. We buy a lot of second hand in our family and anything we can save like plastic bottles we either recycle them or we do arts and crafts stuff with them and create holiday themed decorations.

I'm very thrifty. I will do anything I can to save money. We sell items we no longer need and buy a lot of things 2nd hand. I also don't buy something if I don't actually need it. If I can repair something then I will. I hate wasting money.

MrsCraig same here, i always say to myself that if im not gunna be using/wearing it in the next 7 days then i dont need it. I used to buy all the time and leave in a cupboard or put at the back of wardrobe then used to sell stuff brand new with tags on as Id gone off it or didnt want to use it. I realised I was wasting money so I buy second hand, only time I get brand new clothes is when family buy me a few odd tops or bag for birthday or xmas.

chelseaturpin I used to love browsing the underwear section of M&S. Problem was browsing turned to buying! I no longer shop for anything unless I need it and even then I try to buy 2nd hand or in the sales or I sometimes get things passed on from my mum.

I'm a little bit thrifty. I try my very best to buy/obtain most things second hand. I prefer my hard earned cash going into other 'normal' peoples pockets rather than large companies.

I avoid going into shops for a 'browse' - most of the time you don't need it!

If I really want an item, I either wait until my birthday or xmas and ask for it as a gift OR just wait a month. If I still want it, I can decide whether I want it - but most of the time I just forget about it!

I give away a lot of stuff I no longer want and need on the Olio App, so that people in my area can benefit from things that would either go in the bin and sometimes I collect from other users, too! I hate things going to waste.

If I treat myself to a takeaway, I make sure to use a promo code.

I choose to take a train to work and walk for 10 mins, than a bus that costs £2 dearer and gets me closer to work.

I frequently go around my house, looking for things to sell online. Whether it is clothes, furniture, books etc. I decide whether I'd prefer the cash or the item. I keep the cash to spend on 'treat' purchases. (mostly food items >,<)

For me, It doesn't take any effort to do these things since it is second nature. Since being a child, I have been aware of the value of money and not to waste it. Now I'm a young adult, I'm happy that this is what I do.

Fantastic, great to know that young folk can learn not to be profligate with their money and decide to use it wisely. So many people young and old do not have a clue how much they have in their account at any given time. They spend without thought and are then surprised to find they are overdrawn, or complain they don't have enough when in reality they do, if they spent it wisely.

I would definitely describe myself as thrifty now, although I haven’t always been. I only buy things I need, I buy yellow label food and use cashback apps, I don’t waste much food at all and I compost veg peelings or put them in my wormery.

I wouldn't call myself thrifty as such but I do shop around for a good price and enjoy searching for a bargain. We hardly ever sell anything on - Much rather give things away to any of our friends who need them than sell them.

I'm not sure if I'd call myself thrifty, but I am quite sensible with money, only buying what I need or really want. Prior to Covid, I donated to and shopped in charity shops on a regular basis, which is good for saving money but also for getting unusual/different items that you won't find in regular shops.

Yes I am very thrifty or others might call me a tight ....! Since lockdown I have got worse and haven’t spent on any non essentials.

Reuse, reuse, reuse. I make a game out of finding 6 uses for an object before throwing it away
