Tiling Help Please

Ask a Question

Hi, I’ve started tiling my bathroom and noticed one of the packs are different batches which means I don’t have enough so I’ve chosen to make a feature wall instead. The new tiles I’ve chosen are 600 x 300 on checking my adhesive this isn’t good enough for the tiles, any suggestions on which adhesive to get? Also I’ve used a ready made adhesive on the original tiles which are 400 x 250 but the adhesive tub says maximum 300 x 300. The tiles appear solid but would they fall over time? any help would be appreciate. thank you

For 30*60 tiles you should either use a power adhesive or use the BAL all star (semi pre.mixed) that will do a 60*60 porcelain. Sometimes batches are hard to tell the difference other times it can be the complete opposite and sizes can vary too but it sound alike you have come up with a great idea and make those a feature one on a different section.

Thank you for your help. I didn’t realise that was the case with tiles but I’ve learnt for next time. Thanks for the advice. Do you think my other tiles will hold? I used mapli super grab bathroom adhesive. They do look solid. Thanks again

Pre mixed stuff drys differently to the power stuff. Pre mixed needs air to make it cure. I have seen jobs using pre mixed on large tiles and a few years later it's still not dry (in the middle) so it could fail. On a large format tile air can't get the the centre part to make it dry. Powder I guess uses a chemical reaction and drys that way so it's great for larger tiles. The tiles you have are not massively over 300*300 in regards to coverage per tile so you are probably ok with that (just)

Thats great thank you. I’ve used powder adhesive on the large format tiles and it’s holding so thanks again for your advice. I’ve grouted some of the other and they look ok so will leave them. never realised how complex tiling was even after tiling before.
