In the News
So the co-op are extending their trials, which should be a time saver for shoppers:

have you had a chance to use it yet? Are you looking forward to it?
I've not been to a till-less shop yet, but wouldn't have an issue shopping there. Well self service tills started I was initially not keen on them, but now I prefer them. Although, till-less tills will likely mean more staff will lose their jobs.
Yes, although I’m sure the stores currently already operate with the minimum number of staff available, so it will be a way for them to free up their time on tills by doing other things
It is not in the local Co-op and I do not think they will invest in, because the people who live here are elderly and most of them even refuse to use the self checkout.
I’m not surprised. There are still loads of people who prefer to wait for someone to serve them at the till - part of the ‘human’ interaction of shopping that they like
Personally, I don't like the sound of using apps to 'pay in the aisle' mainly because there's going to be people who are going to use and abuse it. I still don't use those scan things you can take round Tesco's/Asda because they don't sound reliable to me. I reckon stores in general should perfect the self scan first.
I don't have a smart phone (it phones & texts) but that is how I like it. I certainly don't want till less tills that charge you willy nilly, that's not my sort of thing at all. I wouldn't shop in those shops.
Never been to a completely till less shop. In my local Co-op they have just installed some alongside the normal tills. I only use them if I have a couple of items. If I have more the normal till give you more space to pack and you can have a chat with the cashier.
I've used it in M&S before, their app is rubbish but it's great to just walk out without heading to the tills. I think it is a good idea, but eventually systems like Amazon Go will be the main ones in use.
I’m confused, how do they know people arent just pretending to use the app and are stealing it all?? do they check a receipt??
I’m going to guess that they have facial recognition technology instore, and as you have got to register with real customer details, including card details, to be able to use it, it’s one way they can tackle it
hspexy wow that’s all very high tech! I feel like the older generation who are still refusing to use self service checkouts are going to boycott these stores!
jamie15 no, they definitely don’t have that tech now, but it won’t be long until they do - I was in a till less store abroad recently and they definitely have bio data stored for registered customers. It might not be permitted here right now, but it’s most likely what will be used on the future
sarahgreen15 lol tbh a lot of people will have problems with it due to privacy issues, whatever the generation. It’s just sad we will lose the personal touch of customer service
