Time to Stop Spam Deal Posting?

Ask a Question

I love this site, but it can be soooooooo frustrating.

Some people are just putting up nearly identical deals and it's driving me nuts!

One member recently put up a post for Pataks Tikka Masala sauce. And then one for Pataks jalfrezi sauce. And then one for Madras sauce.

There's just no need for it.

I recently put up a deal for bacon, but I didn't put up 2 different posts detailing smoked and unsmoked.

Does anyone else find this practice of basically posting nearly exactly the same deal in 3 different deals annoying when it can all be done in one?

What do you think of this?

I remember there was one like that for pringles! If you are sharing a deal like that just put in the info bit that other flavours are also on offer! I agree it is very frustrating!

MrsCraig Exactly!

If a shop had a deal on Pot Noodles, I could post one for Chicken & Mushroom, one for Beef & Tomato and one for Chow Mein flavours!

Admin need to jump on this practice πŸ˜‚

Morning all πŸ™‚

If you spot the same deal for a different colour/flavour/variety of something already shared on LD then please do report it as a duplicate πŸ‘

We've updated our guidelines recently but since I think they were first written we've always had this one:

Unique deals (don't post different colours etc., separately)

If you find a deal that has multiple colours, flavours or varieties - but all under the same offer - please post it as one deal. You can combine all the various options under the same post.

Kelsey Thanks! I will get reporting from now on.

Where do you stand on stuff like posts for Domino's Pizza and the like? We get 3 nearly identical posts saying 20% off in one branch, 30% off from another etc.

I'm talking about things like this .....

TheChimp As long as the codes work and are different (so it isn't just the same code being re-shared e.g. "Code PIZZA works at Banbury", "Code PIZZA works in Newcastle", etc) then they're all good!

Appreciate it's probably a quick win for some members to quickly share three vouchers and get points but if they're not already on LD they'll ultimately (hopefully!) help someone πŸ‘

Well I reported these colouring books last night Kelsey, after I read this, when these 3 books could have been in one post and it is quite obvious no effort went into the posting and it's just easy points only to be told I'm wrong https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/@thomas18 so I give up! x

What about people just using the same web site every day to basically post offers on different t shirts that are really just a different pattern but the same deal. Or different pop heads every day!

Think they have used 3 websites in a year! Began to wonder if he owned one of them!!

I have used the same web site but for completely different items but not every day. Maybe I take too long I only look and post things i like And would purchase.

One other question what if I report a deal by mistake I can't I'm do it can I ?

As a new member I saw this happening frequently and brought it up with the founders who confirmed that this was flouting the duplicate rules and should be reported. Obviously a human eye cannot check every single post so that is why there is a report system which is rewarded with points.

Personally I do not agree with food deals anyway, it is not worth anyone's time or expense in fuel/fares to go to another supermarket, other than your usual, to save 50p. If you shop there anyway you will see it if it is something you normally buy.

I also think it is disgusting when someone posts a deal for 5p off a chocolate bar and gets 100 points!

The one I questioned long ago was someone posting every flavour of the same brand of soup!

Completely agree with you. I generally only order goods, including food, online. Especially in these crazy days of the Pandemic, as the non-essential shops are only just starting to open. I will be giving these a wide birth. I swear people cannot comprehend the 2 metre rule. Bonkers!

TheChimp pleased you brought this up, so annoying and point grabbing. I also could have put the same deal up in different colours, all I do is add 'other colours available' which I think is fair. Tom Kelsey can they be caught in the "sorry it's already been shared" net?

Hey πŸ™‚ Depending on how the retailer has their website setup, it could already popup in the "It looks like it's already been shared" prompt.

Unfortunately if the retailer's website lists each product variety very separately (different URL, title, image, etc) it can be more tricky to automatically detect! Often what's super easy for a human to distinguish can be quite tricky for a computer!

Yes recently someone was posting almost every item of Disney store as get second half price , but the deal for Disney store as buy one get second half price was already posted so the person decided to just post every item from that deal, it’s so much spam and taking over real deals ! Was going to bring it up in chats as well , but decided to leave it glad you did

This is happening but in the meantime, my deal posting seems to have been limited. I'm not entirely sure why. I just found a really good deal and cannot post it because I am a deals machine apparently. I posted two yesterday and one maybe around midnight - 1am so technically today. Maybe it's because most of them do not require Amazon Prime.

TheChimp I am getting bored to the delight of some. I've achieved absolutely nothing in my endeavours other than to keep Johnny on his toes a few times and he's returned the favour on several occasions. I'm glad we finally had a few fascinating conversations after all the picking at each other's deals. It's a relationship that blossomed.

I'm getting sick of:

  1. Seeing deals where 'Latest Deals have worked with so and so' that are just bringing in massive amounts of commission for the owners eg. the Three mobile deal. I know it's a business but that is taking the mick. You can't call a website 'a community of deal hunters' and then kick them in the teeth by making out that a deal is the best when it really isn't. It was available via Topcashback with about 65 quid cashback and that was after they took their cut so you can imagine how much Latest Deals were raking in with no cut for members.
  2. The issue you have raised in this post.
  3. Constant 'deals' that are just products listed on Amazon for the same price as a supermarket (hence I post the alternative to challenge it).

I've now gone to post a genuinely good deal that nobody else has found and the site won't let me. In the meantime, we have free dog food sitting at the top of the deals page (again) along with a coffee machine subscription service. The latter is just the equivalent of HP's instant ink with coffee instead but worse. It's cheaper to just buy a machine while they are on offer and use the third party capsules of which there are many good brands available. Deals like that are always part of Tom's daily whatever it's called thingy. I don't need to spell it out.

I just don't see the point in even bothering. There was a brilliant deal for a computer hard drive posted late last night. It's buried deep within a sea of biscuits and about 50% of Amazon.co.uk.

I like Kelsey because he and I speak the same language so I feel bad criticising the site he has spent a lot of time working on. Technically though, it's a great website and a reliable app with a brilliant user experience so it's really not a criticism of his work.

I am afraid to say as long as whatever is on that deals page brings in clicks and affiliate income, that's ultimately what matters to a business which is what Latest Deals is! I'm more than willing to be challenged on these views and hope I'm wrong really.

Hello, just a little update and improvement in relation to this...

Whilst different voucher codes are accepted, it is in our guidelines that:

  • Unique deals (don't post different colours etc., separately)
  • If you find a deal that has multiple colours, flavours or varieties - but all under the same offer - please post it as one deal. You can combine all the various options under the same post.

To help communicate this to members who may not be aware, we have updated the moderation message for duplicate posts to read:

  • Thank you for your deal - XYZ. Unfortunately, it looks like you were pipped to the post this time as someone had ||url||. To avoid duplicates, we work on a first-come, first-serve basis. Alternatively, it may be because it was not unique. If you find something that has multiple colours, flavours or varieties - but all under the same offer - please only post it once. You can combine all the various options under the same post. If you have any questions, please contact us. We're looking forward to your next post!

The new, updated text is in bold above. Hopefully, this helps to communicate to all members who perhaps are not aware of our guidelines and support them to post a greater variety of deals.

Hi Tom

Couldn't you advise people to detail the different codes in one post?

It is soooooooo annoying and obviously cheap points scoring.

It just clogs up the deals page.

TheChimp agree totally. Today there at least 6 companies for vouchers and each company has 3-5 posts for different vouchers. This is point scoring and doesn't need a different post for each voucher. One is plenty with them all listed!

angemski Call me traditional, but I rather like a local high street jewellers. I have two near me and I would rather shop local and know the quality of the items. Plus, when I haggled with one jeweller, when I was buying an expensive watch, I negotiated a Β£300 discount. Xx

Ceebers A friend in the business told me it always pays to ask, the more expensive the item the more the mark-up so they can afford to give a discount and what a discount you got. Way better than 3p from Amazon!

TheChimp lilyflower angemski ukheather thank you all for your feedback. I certainly agree that better deals and vouchers is something weβ€˜re always striving for. And we hope to continually improve until we can find the right balance for everyone.

In the meantime, you can avoid all vouchers by only looking at the deals section > Newest. (https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/deals?sort=latest)

The homepage > Newest includes deals, vouchers and freebies. You may prefer it if it was just deals.

Thanks again, Tom

Sorry a bit late to the party here but unfortunately its not only the vouchers which are spam posted. Every morning I wake up and see deals that could have been shared under one post, eg today three pushchairs sold by the same company, slight different colours and style but the same offer discount on different posts -easy points to reach the maximum daily deal posting limit.

I’ll be trying to avoid the deals pages in the morning (as the advice suggested above) but I am sure this happens the entire day!

Thank you for your feedback, if you spot this happening you can report it as a duplicate. The report is then checked by our Mentors and if approved, you can earn points for the correct report.

As a community site with over 1,000 posts a day, we rely quite a lot on member reports.

Please read How to Report a Post as a Duplicate.

This is very helpful and helps keep our community full of lovely, unique, quality deals.

The posts with the 3 different sauces was probably removed and points taken off. I inadvertently did something similar and was contacted the next day.

But I agree there are some really lazy post just the get points.

I try and find a good deal and it's usually only something I would purchase myself.
